Nigel Edwards (golfer)
Nigel Edwards (born ) is a Welsh amateur golfer. Edwards worked for the Golf Union of Wales for ten years. In early 2012, he became the Director of Coaching for the English Golf Union. Edward was one of the leading Welsh amateurs for many years. He first played in the Walker Cup in 2001. In the 2003 Walker Cup, he made the winning putt at the Ganton Golf Club. He joined the team again in 2005 and 2007, and was captain of the winning team in 2011. He captained again in 2013. On 16 January 2014 it was announced that Edwards had been re-appointed as captain of the Great Britain & Ireland for the 2015 Walker Cup at Royal Lytham and St Anne's, as well as the 2014 St Andrews Trophy. 2005 Walker Cup
The 40th Walker Cup Match was played on August 13 and 14, 2005 at the Chicago Golf Club in Wheaton, Illinois, United States. Team United States won 12½ to 11½. Format The format for play on Saturday and Sunday are the same. There are four matches of foursomes in the morning and eight singles matches in the afternoon. In all, 24 matches are played. Each of the 24 matches is worth one point in the larger team competition. If a match is all square after the 18th hole extra holes are not played. Rather, each side earns ½ a point toward their team total. The team that accumulates at least 12½ points wins the competition. The 2008 Eisenhower Trophy took place 16–19 October at Royal Adelaide Golf Club and on the West course at The Grange Golf Club in Adelaide, Australia. It was the 26th World Amateur Team Championship for the Eisenhower Trophy and the second to be held in Australia. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 65 three-man teams. The 2006 Eisenhower Trophy took place 26–29 October at De Zalze Golf Club and Stellenbosch Golf Club in Stellenbosch, east of Cape Town, South Africa. Eisenhower Trophy
The Eisenhower Trophy (World Men's Amateur Team Championships) is the biennial World Amateur Team Championship for men organized by the International Golf Federation. Since the tournament was first played in 1958, it is named after Dwight D. Eisenhower, the President of the United States at the time, who was a keen amateur golfer. The equivalent competition for women is the Espirito Santo Trophy. Results The 1958 championship resulted in a tie. There was an 18-hole playoff which Australia won with a score of 222 to the United States 224. From 1958 to 2000 the teams had four players with the best three scores counting for each round. Bonallack Trophy
The Bonallack Trophy is an amateur golf competition on the model of the Ryder Cup which opposes every two years a European team and a team representing Asia/Pacific. The venue alternates between courses in Europe and Asia/Pacific. The first competition took place in 1998 in Perth, Australia. Since 2016 it has been held concurrently with the women's Patsy Hankins Trophy. Europe leads the series 7 wins to 3. Format The Bonallack Trophy involves various match play competitions between players selected from two teams of twelve representing Europe and Asia/Pacific.
