Tampere Natural History Museum is a natural history museum in Tampere, Finland. It is based in the Vapriikki Museum Centre. It shows animals of Pirkanmaa Pirkanmaa (; sv, Birkaland; la, Birkaria, link=no), also known as ''Tampere Region'' in government documents, is a region of Finland. It borders the regions of Satakunta, South Ostrobothnia, Central Finland, Päijät-Häme, Kanta-Häme an ... region. The Tampere Museum of Natural History was first opened in 1961. Before that there were temporary exhibitions of the local nature for the people of Tampere. The oldest parts of the museum's collections are now more than 150 years old. The Vapriikki Museum Centre (Finnish: ''Museokeskus Vapriikki'') is a cluster of museums operating in the old factory premises of Tampella, in Tampere, Finland. The name ''Vapriikki'' derives from the Swedish word ''fabrik'', meaning factory. Overview The facility was first opened to the public in 1996, and the centre was completed in 2000.
