The basketball tournaments of NCAA Season 88 are the Philippines' National Collegiate Athletic Association tournaments for basketball in its 2012–13 season. Colegio de San Juan de Letran hosted the season, starting with an opening ceremony held on June 23, 2012 followed by a double-header. Games then are subsequently being held at Filoil Flying V Arena, with men's games on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays aired by AKTV. The Colegio de San Juan de Letran, (transl: College of San Juan de Letran) also referred to by its acronym CSJL, is a private Catholic coeducational basic and higher education institution owned and run by the friars of the Order of Preachers in Intramuros, Manila, Philippines. Francisco Luis "Louie" Alas (born October 10, 1963) is a Filipino basketball head coach. He is the former head coach of the Letran Knights in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, and Philippine Patriots in the ASEAN Basketball League. He was also a former coach of Mobiline from 2000 to 2001 in the Philippine Basketball Association. Playing career Alas' basketball career began in Adamson University in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines where he played for the school's team Adamson Falcons. In the PABL, he played for ESQ, Purefoods, Philips Sardines and Burger Machine. He also used to work in the Philippine Sports Commission. The MapĂșa Cardinals basketball program represents MapĂșa University (MU) in men's basketball as a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (Philippines) (NCAA). The MapĂșa Cardinals are one of the three NCAA seniors' basketball teams in Intramuros. History Originally as the MapĂșa Institute of Technology (MIT), the Cardinals are named after the Major League Baseball team St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals have won six NCAA titles, the first in 1949, and the latest in 1991. Atoy Co won the NCAA MVP award in 1971, and would later coach the team in the 21st century. Freddie Hubalde won the NCAA MVP award in 1973, and will be team mate of Co in the grand-slam winning 1983 Crispa Redmanizers team. Bonnie Tan (born September 9, 1972) is a Filipino basketball coach serving currently for the Colegio de San Juan de Letran's men's basketball team of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (Philippines) (NCAA) and team manager for NorthPort Batang Pier of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) since 2014. The Lyceum Pirates basketball program represents Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) in men's basketball as a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (Philippines) (NCAA). The Lyceum Pirates previously co-founded the Inter-Scholastic Athletic Association (ISAA). The JRU Heavy Bombers basketball program represents José Rizal University (JRU) in men's basketball as a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (Philippines) (NCAA). The EAC Generals basketball program represents Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) in men's basketball as a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (Philippines) (NCAA).
