My Fair Princess
''My Fair Princess'', also known as ''Return of the Pearl Princess'' or ''Princess Returning Pearl'' (), is a 1998–1999 Taiwanese television costume drama jointly produced by Yi Ren Communications Co. (怡人傳播公司) in Taiwan and Hunan Broadcasting System in China. Season 1 (1998) was filmed in 1997, and Season 2 (1999) in 1998–1999. Both seasons were filmed in Beijing, Chengde and the Bashang Plateau in China, and first shown on China Television in Taiwan. Written by creator Chiung Yao, the story is set in 18th-century Qing dynasty during the Qianlong Emperor's reign. It follows tomboyish and innocent Xiaoyanzi, originally an orphaned and semi-literate vagrant in Beijing who, after befriending the emperor's illegitimate daughter Xia Ziwei, becomes a princess in place of her by accident. Alec Su
Alec Su You-peng (born 11 September 1973) is a Taiwanese actor, singer, television producer, and film director. Su became a popular teen idol in the 1980s as a member of the boyband '' Xiao Hu Dui''. He was known as the "Obedient Tiger" (乖乖虎). The 1998–1999 hit TV series ''My Fair Princess'' marked a turning point in Su's career. The Qing dynasty ( ), officially the Great Qing,, was a Manchu-led imperial dynasty of China and the last orthodox dynasty in Chinese history. Chengde
Chengde, formerly known as Jehol and Rehe, is a prefecture-level city in Hebei province, situated about 225 km northeast of Beijing. It is best known as the site of the Mountain Resort, a vast imperial garden and palace formerly used by the Qing emperors as summer residence. The permanent resident population is approximately 3,473,200 in 2017. History In 1703, Chengde was chosen by the Kangxi Emperor as the location for his summer residence. New My Fair Princess
''New My Fair Princess'' is a 2011 Chinese television drama written by Taiwanese novelist Chiung Yao (with help by her assistant Huang Su-yuan) and produced by Hunan Broadcasting System. It is a remake of the 1998–1999 smash hit ''My Fair Princess'', and directed by the same 2 directors from '' My Fair Princess III'' (2003). Akin to the original, main cast members were almost all unestablished, although lead actresses Li Sheng and Hai Lu were already 27 and 26 years old in 2010 when it was shot. Ruby Lin from the original as well as Qin Lan and Zang Jinsheng from ''My Fair Princess III'' made guest appearances. Despite a huge budget compared to the original, including over ¥4.5 million (roughly US$0.7 million) on costumes alone, the series received largely negative reviews after it was broadcast. ''My Fair Princess III'', also called ''My Fair Princess III: Heavenly Earth'', is a 2003 television drama and the sequel of the 2-season series ''My Fair Princess'' (1998–1999). A joint production between Ho Jan Entertainment International Limited (可人國際影視文化傳播有限公司) in Hong Kong and Hunan Broadcasting System in Mainland China, it was also written by Taiwanese novelist Chiung Yao. Only 5 actors returned from the first 2 seasons (Zhou Jie, Wang Yan, Zhao Minfen, Wen Haibo and Liu Fang), while 12 recurring characters were portrayed by new actors, including central protagonists Xiaoyanzi, Xia Ziwei, Yongqi and Qianlong Emperor. China Television Company, Ltd. (CTV; ) (Formerly called Taiwan Daytime TV (TDT) in 1969-1975) is a television broadcasting company based in Taipei, Taiwan.
