Mmaku
Mmaku is a town in the Awgu local government area of Enugu State, Nigeria. The name Mmaku means "Welcomer" or "Embracer". Another derivation comes from the English language, and it means "beauty of wealth." Mmaku communities include Enugwu Agu, Affam, Ifite, Amagu, Otokwu, and Ezioha. The Oji-Awgu road is the main thoroughfare in Mmaku. Surrounding communities are Ugbo, Obeagu, Mgbowo, and Awgu. History Several myths circulate the history of Mmaku. Ezianu One legend is about Anekemmadu, a hunter, who came to a land that was favorable to him and produced a good yield. He decided to live there with his wife, Dumeogwee''.'' Mmamu River
Mmamu River is a river which has its source in Mmaku community, in Awgu LGA with a large expanse at Inyi, Oji River LGA, Enugu State. Origin The story of the origin of Mmamu as told by one Jude Orji from the community is surrounded in mystery as the goddess was said to have been linked to a man called Mmaku. As a result, the name of the town was said to have been derived from the deity. In those days, the story continues, there were inter-tribal wars and the people of Mmaku took refuge in the deity and indeed, no community dared the power of Mmamu, the goddess. During the civil war, soldiers on the Nigerian side were victims of circumstance as many of them were said to have died after eating fishes caught from the river. Patrick Obasi (15 May 1951 – 16 October 2012), popularly known as Patty Obasi, was a Nigerian gospel recording artist. Ugbo
Ugbo is one of the few aborigines east of the River Niger, Nigeria, and has existed in its current location dating back to the Ancient History (3000 BC – AD 500). The town is known for its natural habitat, including serene hills, caves, large rocks and stones, rivers, forests, wild animals, and fertile lands. Ugbo is the ancestral home to many towns in Igboland. Gulder Ultimate Search (also called GUS) is a Nigerian reality television series, created and sponsored by Nigerian Breweries Plc to promote the Gulder Lager Beer. The first season premiered in 2004. The GUS series is also the very first 100% local content reality television programme in Nigeria and it is a survival type reality programme that highlights the struggle of Contestants (10–30 persons, depending on the reference edition), their struggles against themselves and the wild i.e. nature and their search for a hidden treasure that brings to the last person standing instant fame and fortune. Awgu
Awgu is the Headquarters of Awgu Local Government Area (LGA) in Enugu State, Nigeria and the Headquarters of Awgu Catholic Diocese. The Catholic Cathedral is said to resemble a space ship when viewed with Google Earth. The town is also the Orientation Training Centre for National Youth Service corps members posted to Enugu State. Laterite
Laterite is both a soil and a rock type rich in iron and aluminium and is commonly considered to have formed in hot and wet tropical areas. Nearly all laterites are of rusty-red coloration, because of high iron oxide content. They develop by intensive and prolonged weathering of the underlying parent rock, usually when there are conditions of high temperatures and heavy rainfall with alternate wet and dry periods.
