Målselv Church
Målselv Church ( no, Målselv kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Målselv Municipality in Troms county, Norway. It is located along the river Målselva at Målselv, about north of the village of Bardufoss. It is the main church for the Målselv parish which is part of the Senja prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nord-Hålogaland. The white concrete and red brick church was built in a Churches in Norway#Floor plan, long church style in 1978 by the architect Harry Gangvik. The church seats about 360 people. History The first church in Målselv was built in 1829. It was a red, wooden, Octagonal churches in Norway, octagonal building. It looked a lot like the Grytten Church that still exists. By the late 1800s, the church was too small for the parish, so it was decided to build a new church. Målselv ( sme, Málatvuomi suohkan) is a List of municipalities of Norway, municipality in Troms og Finnmark Counties of Norway, county, Norway. Grytten Church
Grytten Church ( no, Grytten kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Rauma Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located near the mouth of the Rauma River in the village of Veblungsnes. It is the church for the Grytten parish which is part of the Indre Romsdal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Møre. The red, wooden church was built in an octagonal design in 1829 using plans drawn up by the architect S.H. Aspaas, possibly using the Sør-Fron Church as a model. The church seats about 250 people. There are four large columns which support the tower. Inside the church, there is a tall, wide wooden crucifix, possibly from the 13th century. Jacob Sverdrup Smitt
Jacob Sverdrup Smitt (6 January 1835 – 6 June 1889) was a Norwegian bishop and politician. Career Smitt was born in Nordre Land, Norway. He was the son of the dean Anton Elias Smitt (1805–1875) and Livia Sverdrup (1808–1840), and brother of Jonas and Livius Smitt. His father was a curate in Land from 1835 until 1840, when he became vicar in Vinje. Jakob Sverdrup Smitt was home schooled, except for one year of school in Kristiania from 1852 to 1853. He took his examen artium in 1853, enrolled in theology studies and graduated with a Candidatus theologiæ degree in 1860. In June 1862 Smitt became a curate, working under his father in Voss. In April 1865 in Bergen he married Letta Nicolaysen (1843–1923). In January 1865 he moved to Hammerfest to become a catechist and school teacher.
