Mujiayu
Mujiayu Town () is a town located in the Miyun District of Beijing, China. It is situated at the south of Miyun Reservoir. The town shares border with Bulaotun Town in its north, Taishitun Town in its northeast, Jugezhuang and Henanzhai Towns in its south, Tanying Ethnic Township and Gulou Subdistrict in its southwest, and Xiwengzhuang Town in its west. In 2020, it was home to 23,084 inhabitants. The town was given the name Mujiayu () for it being the supposed homeland of Mu Guiying, a legendary Chinese heroine during the Song dynasty. Tanying
Tanying Area () is an area and an ethnic township located in the Miyun District of Beijing, China. Located on the south of Ye Mountain (冶山), it shares border with Mujiayu Town in its north and east, Gulou Subdistrict in its southwest, and Miyun Town in its northwest. In 2020, the area had 15,466 inhabitants under its administration. Bulaotun
Bulaotun Town () is a town located in the Miyun District of Beijing, China. It lies between part of Yan Mountain Range and Miyun Reservoir. The town borders Mayingzi Manchu Ethnic Township to the north, Gaoling Town to the east, Xiwengzhuang and Mujiayu Towns to the south, as well as Shicheng and Fengjiayu Towns to the west. In 2020, it was home to 12,705 inhabitants. This town's name Bulaotun () originates from a local legend about a farmer encountering two immortals during his woodcutting trip in the mountains. Taishitun
Taishitun Town () is a town located in the Miyun District of Beijing, China. Chao River, Qingshui River and Andamu River converge here before flowing into Miyun Reservoir. The town is situated on the south of Gaoling and Gubeikou Towns, west of Xinchengzi and Wulingshan Towns, northwest of Beizhuang and Dachengzi Towns, as well as northeast of Jugezhuang and Mujiayu Towns. According to the 2020 census, it was home to 22,388 inhabitants. Prior to the Ming dynasty, this region had been the residence of the Court Astronomer, thus earned the name Taishitun (). Later the name evolved into its current form. Xiwengzhuang Town () is a town located in the Miyun District of Beijing, China. Situated on the southwest of the Miyun Reservoir, it borders Shicheng and Bulaotun Towns to the north, Mujiayu Town to the east, Miyun Town to the south, and Xitiangezhuang Town to the west. In the year 2020, its population was 20,438. This town got the name Xiwengzhuang () due to its government being located in Xiwengzhuang Village. Gulou Subdistrict () is a subdistrict and the seat of Miyun District of Beijing, China. It borders Miyun Town and Tanying Ethnic Township to its north, Mujiayu Town to its east, Henanzhai Town to its south, and Guoyuan Subdistrict to its west. As of 2020, it had a population of 154,739. The subdistrict was created in 2005 from part of Miyun Town. its name Gulou () originates from the Miyun Drum Tower that used to exist within the region. Henanzhai Town () is a town located in the Miyun District of Beijing, China. Situated at the northwest of Ligu Mountain, the town shares border with Gulou Subdistrict and Mujiayu Town in the north, Jugezhuang and Dongshaoqu Towns in the east, Mulin Town in the south, as well as Beifang and Shilipu Towns in the west. In the year 2020, the census counted 24,155 residents for this town. The town got its name Henanzhai () for its location south of Chao River. Miyun District
Miyun District () is situated in northeast Beijing. It has an area of and a population of 460,800 (2010 Census). Miyun District government seat is located in Gulou Subdistrict. History Miyun was one of the places where Warlord Feng Yuxiang stationed his troops in preparation of the Beijing Coup of 1924. In the 1930s, Miyun District was occupied by the Imperial Japanese Army and became part of the area controlled by the East Hebei Autonomous Council, a puppet state of Japan. The Japanese occupation was challenged, however, when a local Taoist priest managed to incite Miyun's peasantry. As member of the Yellow Sand Society, he garnered followers and convinced them that they could become immune to gunfire through magical rituals that he performed. Thus highly motivated, the peasants launched a rebellion in July 1936 and defeated an East Hopei Army unit that was sent to suppress them. Direct-controlled Municipality
A direct-controlled municipality is the highest level classification for cities used by unitary states, with status equal to that of the provinces in the respective countries. A direct-controlled municipality is similar to, but not the same as, a federal district, a common designation in various countries for a municipality that is not part of any state, and which usually hosts some governmental functions. Usually direct-controlled municipality are under central government control with limited power. Many countries have adopted this system with some different variations.
