Mountainview (electoral District)
Mountainview is an electoral district which returns a member (known as an MLA) to the Legislative Assembly of Yukon in Canada. It was created in 2009 out of parts of the former districts of McIntyre-Takhini and Copperbelt. It contains the Whitehorse subdivisions of Granger, Valleyview, McIntyre, and Hillcrest. It is the former riding of the Yukon's 8th Premier, Darrell Pasloski. In the 2021 Yukon Elections, it is the only electoral district with an independent candidate and, thus, the only district with more than three candidates. Jeanie McLean
Jeanie McLean, formerly known as Jeanie Dendys, is a Canadian politician, who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Yukon in the 2016 election. She represents the electoral district of Mountainview as a member of the Yukon Liberal Party. Prior to entering territorial politics, McLean was the Director of Justice for the Kwanlin Dün First Nation. She has served in numerous advisory capacities, including the Yukon Policing Review and the review of the Yukon Corrections system. McLean also served for four years as the Yukon representative to the RCMP Commissioner's First Nation Policing Advisory Board. McLean defeated Yukon Premier Darrell Pasloski in his riding of Mountainview on November 7, 2016. Darrell Pasloski
Darrell Thomas Pasloski (born December 2, 1960) is a territorial politician from Yukon, Canada, who was leader of the Yukon Party, and served as the eighth premier of Yukon from 2011 to 2016. His party was defeated in the general election of November, 2016, and he lost his own seat. He was succeeded by Sandy Silver as Premier of Yukon on December 3, 2016. Early life The oldest of three children, Darrell Pasloski was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba, with his family moving to Saskatchewan when he was a year old. Between grades 6 – 9, Pasloski and his family resided in High Level, Alberta, which was booming at the time with 1,000-1,500 people in the community. 2011 Yukon General Election
The 2011 general election in Yukon, Canada, took place on October 11, 2011, to return members to the 33rd Yukon Legislative Assembly. The incumbent government was led by Darrell Pasloski, who was elected as leader of the Yukon Party at a convention on May 28, 2011, replacing former Premier Dennis Fentie. The Yukon Party won its third majority government, with Elizabeth Hanson's NDP becoming the Official Opposition, replacing the Liberal Party, whose leader Arthur Mitchell was unable to return to the Assembly. The Yukon Liberal Party (french: Parti libéral du Yukon) is a political party in the territory of Yukon, Canada. The party is not organizationally linked to the federal Liberal Party of Canada in any official manner. Sandy Silver, MLA for Klondike, is the Leader of the Yukon Liberal Party and Premier of Yukon. History After twenty years as a minor party, the Yukon Liberal Party won the 2000 general election and formed a government under Premier Pat Duncan. 2016 Yukon General Election
The 2016 general election in Yukon, Canada, took place on November 7, 2016, to return members to the 34th Yukon legislative assembly. The election was fought over issues relating to the economy, the environment, First Nations reconciliation, fracking, and the merits of a territorial carbon tax. The premier of Yukon is the first minister and head of government for the Canadian territory of Yukon. The post is the territory's head of government, although its powers are considerably more limited than that of a provincial premier. The office was established in 1978 when most authority was devolved from the appointed commissioner to the leader of the party that had the confidence of the Yukon Legislative Assembly; for the year immediately prior to this, that leader was one of the members serving with the commissioner's Executive Committee (a Cabinet). Whitehorse, Yukon
Whitehorse () is the capital of Yukon, and the largest city in Northern Canada. It was incorporated in 1950 and is located at kilometre 1426 (Historic Mile 918) on the Alaska Highway in southern Yukon. Whitehorse's downtown and Riverdale areas occupy both shores of the Yukon River, which rises in British Columbia and meets the Bering Sea in Alaska. The city was named after the White Horse Rapids for their resemblance to the mane of a white horse, near Miles Canyon, before the river was dammed. Copperbelt (electoral District)
Copperbelt was an electoral district which returned a member to the Legislative Assembly of Yukon, Canada. It included the Whitehorse subdivisions of Hillcrest, Granger, Pineridge, MacRae, and part of Copper Ridge. It also included the Lobird mobile home park. The riding was divided into the new ridings of Copperbelt South, Copperbelt North, Mountainview, and Takhini-Kopper King in 2009. The substantial amount of new housing development in the riding since its creation had led to a significant increase in population that had imbalanced the riding's size compared to others in the territory. Copperbelt is the former seat of Yukon Liberal Party leader Arthur Mitchell, who was Yukon's Leader of the Official Opposition from 2005-2011.
