Copperbelt (electoral District)
Copperbelt was an electoral district which returned a member to the Legislative Assembly of Yukon, Canada. It included the Whitehorse subdivisions of Hillcrest, Granger, Pineridge, MacRae, and part of Copper Ridge. It also included the Lobird mobile home park. The riding was divided into the new ridings of Copperbelt South, Copperbelt North, Mountainview, and Takhini-Kopper King in 2009. The substantial amount of new housing development in the riding since its creation had led to a significant increase in population that had imbalanced the riding's size compared to others in the territory. Copperbelt is the former seat of Yukon Liberal Party leader Arthur Mitchell, who was Yukon's Leader of the Official Opposition from 2005-2011. Arthur Mitchell (Yukon Politician)
Arthur Mitchell is a Canadian politician, who was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Yukon and the Leader of the Official Opposition from 2006 to 2011. He is a former real estate agent and an assistant to John Ostashek, the Yukon Party Government Leader (Premier) from 1992 to 1996. Mitchell was elected leader in June 2005 in a leadership race against Pat Duncan, the Yukon's first Liberal premier, and remained leader until his defeat in the 2011 Yukon election. Personal life Mitchell is originally from the community of New Rochelle, New York. He is the brother of television journalist Andrea Mitchell who is married to Alan Greenspan. Yukon Liberal Party
The Yukon Liberal Party (french: Parti libéral du Yukon) is a political party in the territory of Yukon, Canada. The party is not organizationally linked to the federal Liberal Party of Canada in any official manner. Sandy Silver, MLA for Klondike, is the Leader of the Yukon Liberal Party and Premier of Yukon. History After twenty years as a minor party, the Yukon Liberal Party won the 2000 general election and formed a government under Premier Pat Duncan. The Yukon New Democratic Party (NDP; french: Nouveau Parti démocratique du Yukon) is a Social democracy, social-democratic List of political parties in Yukon, political party in the Yukon territory of Canada. 2006 Yukon General Election
The 2006 Yukon general election was held on October 10, 2006, in Yukon, Canada, to elect members of the 32nd Yukon Legislative Assembly. The Premier of Yukon asked the territorial Commissioner for a dissolution of the Assembly on September 8, 2006. Yukon Party
The Yukon Party (french: Parti du Yukon) is a conservative political party in Yukon, Canada. It is the successor to the Yukon Progressive Conservative Party. Formation With Prime Minister Brian Mulroney's Progressive Conservative federal government's decreasing popularity, the Yukon Progressive Conservatives decided to sever its relations with the federal Conservatives, and renamed itself the "Yukon Party" in 1991. Haakon Arntzen
Haakon Arntzen is a Canadian politician. He represented the Whitehorse, Yukon electoral district of Copperbelt in the Yukon Legislative Assembly as a member of the Yukon Party from 2002 to 2005. Political career First elected in the 2002 territorial election, Arntzen served as a backbench government MLA during the first part of his term. He was elected to represent the newly created Whitehorse riding of Copperbelt on behalf of the Yukon Party, which was swept into government after defeating the Yukon Liberals of Pat Duncan. He left the Yukon Party caucus on April 28, 2004 to sit as an Independent after being criminally charged with the indecent assault of two teenage girls in the 1970s. Takhini-Kopper King
Takhini-Kopper King is an electoral district which returns a member (known as an MLA) to the Legislative Assembly of Yukon in Canada. It was created in 2009 out of much of the former riding of McIntyre-Takhini. The riding includes the Whitehorse subdivisions of Takhini and Raven's Ridge, as well as the Kopper King, Takhini, and Northland mobile home parks and the residences along the Fish Lake Road. Mountainview (electoral District)
Mountainview is an electoral district which returns a member (known as an MLA) to the Legislative Assembly of Yukon in Canada. It was created in 2009 out of parts of the former districts of McIntyre-Takhini and Copperbelt. It contains the Whitehorse subdivisions of Granger, Valleyview, McIntyre, and Hillcrest. It is the former riding of the Yukon's 8th Premier, Darrell Pasloski.
