Moreno De Souza
Moreno de Souza ( Konkani: ''Padre Moren'') (3 November 1923 – 14 October 2007) was a Goan Jesuit priest and Konkani Marian poet, Konkani writer, translator and a historian. He was one of the translators of the '' Povitr Pustok'' (the Holy Bible) in Romi Konkani. Early life Born at his maternal house in Pilerne, Goa on 3 November 1923 to Maria Magdalena and Jeronimo de Souza, Moreno spent his early life in Marna and then Pilerne where he studied. He was born in a family that gave several priests to the Church: two of his maternal uncles, Pe. Leles de Souza and Pe. Cirilo de Souza are diocesan priests in the Archdiocese of Goa. Hard working and obedient he studied at the Institute Mater Dei in Saligão, Goa. Being persuaded by Mgr Ayres Fernandes from Siolim to write in his own mother tongue, Moreno, as a boy, began writing in Konkani. Pilerne is a village situated in north Goa in the Bardez taluka of the North Goa district. It is rustic despite being fairly close to the North Goa tourist belt, and is considered a Census Town for the purposes of the Census. The village has mainly been inhabited by Goan Catholics. Old Goa
Old Goa ( Konkani: ; pt, Velha Goa, translation='Old Goa') is a historical site and city situated on the southern banks of the River Mandovi, within the Tiswadi ''taluka'' (''Ilhas'') of North Goa district, in the Indian state of Goa. In the Society of Jesus, a professed house was a residence where - in a spirit of radical poverty - no member had a stable income. The Jesuit priests who lived there, all of whom have made the profession of the four vows, undertake their spiritual and pastoral ministry completely for free. The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus ( la, Cor Jesu Sacratissimum) is one of the most widely practised and well-known Catholic devotions, wherein the heart of Jesus is viewed as a symbol of "God's boundless and passionate love for mankind". ''Dor Mhoineachi Rotti'' (meaning ''Our Monthly Bread'' in English) is the oldest defunct periodical in the Konkani language. History and profile The magazine was initially named ''Dor Muineachi Rotti Povitra Jesucha Calzachem Devoçãõ Vaddounchi''. Fr. Vincent Lobo, from Sangolda in Goa, curator at the St. Patrick's Church in Karachi, began it in 1915, to cater to the large number of Konkani-speaking people there, as there was no other Konkani spiritual literature.
