Mohammad Hossein Akbari (born 1950) is a former tennis player from Iran. Career He was introduced to Tennis at age of 6. His first Tennis competitive match was in 1961 where he defeated Iran's runner up Nemat Nemati. At age of 16 he became the first Iranian to compete at 1966 Wimbledon Juniors. Tehran (; fa, تهران ) is the largest city in Tehran Province and the capital of Iran. Tennis
Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. The object of the game is to manoeuvre the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. The Orange Bowl International Tennis Championships, known as the Dunlop Orange Bowl International Tennis Championships from 2008 to 2013 with Dunlop as the title sponsor, and renamed the Metropolia Orange Bowl International Tennis Championships from 2013 onwards, is a prestigious junior tennis tournament, one of five that are rated by the ITF as 'Grade A'. The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men's tennis. It is run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and is contested annually between teams from competing countries in a knock-out format. It is described by the organisers as the "World Cup of Tennis", and the winners are referred to as the World Champion team. Taghi Akbari ( fa, تقی اکبری; born 1945) is an Iranian former tennis player. Career Akbari was a member of Iran Davis Cup team from 1958 to 1975, where he was captain since 1974. He appeared at 15 Davis Cup campaigns for Iran, which is a national record. His 17 singles wins is also an Iranian Davis Cup record, that was equaled by Anoosha Shahgholi in 2011. He also won three doubles rubbers during his career. In 1962 he was a quarter-finalist at the Lebanon International Championships. His only career singles title win came at the Lebanese National Championships held in Brummana, Lebanon in 1965. In 1966 he reached the quarter-finals of the Philippines Championships. He won a bronze medal in the men's singles event at the 1966 Asian Games and a silver medal at the 1974 Asian Games, where he lost in the gold medal playoff to Toshiro Sakai.
