Taghi Akbari
Taghi Akbari ( fa, تقی اکبری; born 1945) is an Iranian former tennis player. Career Akbari was a member of Iran Davis Cup team from 1958 to 1975, where he was captain since 1974. He appeared at 15 Davis Cup campaigns for Iran, which is a national record. His 17 singles wins is also an Iranian Davis Cup record, that was equaled by Anoosha Shahgholi in 2011. He also won three doubles rubbers during his career. In 1962 he was a quarter-finalist at the Lebanon International Championships. His only career singles title win came at the Lebanese National Championships held in Brummana, Lebanon in 1965. In 1966 he reached the quarter-finals of the Philippines Championships. He won a bronze medal in the men's singles event at the 1966 Asian Games and a silver medal at the 1974 Asian Games, where he lost in the gold medal playoff to Toshiro Sakai. The Iranian International Championships also known as the Iran International was a men's clay court tennis tournament founded in 1966. It was first held in Opt Esteghlal Tennis Club, Tehran, Iran. The All India Hard Court Championships, also known as the All India Hard Court Tennis Championships, was a combined men's and women's clay court tennis tournament founded in 1946. The championships were first played at the Madras Gymkhana Club grounds, Madras, Tamil Nadu, India. The championships ran until 1972 before it was discontinued as part of the worldwide tennis circuit. History Tennis was introduced to India in the 1880s by British Army and Civilian Officers. In 1946 the All India Tennis Association established a national level tournament called the All India Hard Court Championships. Mohammad Hossein Akbari (born 1950) is a former tennis player from Iran. Career He was introduced to Tennis at age of 6. His first Tennis competitive match was in 1961 where he defeated Iran's runner up Nemat Nemati. At age of 16 he became the first Iranian to compete at 1966 Wimbledon Juniors. Philip Clive Dent (born 14 February 1950) is a former professional tennis player. Dent's high water mark as a pro singles player was reaching the Australian Open final in 1974, which he lost to Jimmy Connors in four sets. Dent was also the men's doubles champion at the Australian Open in 1975 (with teammate John Alexander), and the mixed-doubles champion at the US Open in 1976 (with teammate Billie Jean King).
