Miss Universe 1957, the 6th Miss Universe pageant, was held on 19 July 1957 in Long Beach, California, United States. In this pageant, 32 contestants competed. Gladys Zender of Peru won the competition, becoming the first Latin American woman to be crowned as Miss Universe, and was crowned by Carol Morris of the United States. Gladys Rosa Zender de Meier ( née Zender Urbina; born October 19, 1939) is a Peruvian model and beauty queen who became the first Latin American to win the Miss Universe title. She was crowned Miss Peru Universe 1957 by Miss Peru Universe 1956, Lola Sabogal Morzán. Miss Universe Born to a Swiss father and a Peruvian mother, she won the title of Miss Universe 1957 in Long Beach, California, United States. Gerti Daub Hollmann (née Daub; born 1937) is a German former model who was crowned Miss Germany 1957. Having previously been crowned Miss Hamburg 1957, she went on to represent Germany at Miss Europe 1957 and Miss Universe 1957, where she placed as the second and fourth runner-up respectively. Life and career Daub was born in Utrecht and raised in Germany. She was selected as Miss Hamburg 1957. As Miss Hamburg, Daub competed in Miss Germany 1957 in Baden-Baden. She went on to win the competition, and received the right to represent Germany at both Miss Europe 1957 and Miss Universe 1957. Marita Lindahl (17 October 1938 – 21 March 2017) was a Finnish model and beauty queen who won the 1957 Miss World beauty pageant, after being crowned Miss Finland 1957 by Miss Finland 1956, Sirpa Helena Koivu.
