Miroslav Stanovský
Miroslav Stanovský (born 18 October 1970 in Ružomberok, Czechoslovakia) is a retired Slovak slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1988 to 2013, specializing in the K1 discipline. He represented Czechoslovakia at the 1988 World Junior Canoe Slalom Championships. At the senior level he represented Slovakia from 1993 to 2000 and then Latvia from 2007 to 2013. He competed in the K1 event at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, where he finished in 10th position. He is the first Slovak paddler to win an individual medal in the men's K1 category with a silver at the inaugural 1996 European Canoe Slalom Championships in Augsburg. As of 2023 he is coaching his daughter Soňa Stanovská Soňa Stanovská (born 27 February 2000) is a Slovak slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2015. Ružomberok
Ružomberok (; german: Rosenberg; hu, Rózsahegy; pl, Rużomberk) is a town in northern Slovakia, in the historical Liptov region. It has a population of around 27,000 inhabitants (45,000 with nearby villages). Etymology The name of the initial settlement located on today's Makovický street was ''Revúca'' ( Slovak "roaring", derived from the Revúca river). In its neighborhood, German colonists build a new settlement ''Rosenberg'' named after wild roses growing in the area. This name was later adopted by Slovaks as ''Ružomberok''. Geography It is situated at the westernmost reaches of the Sub-Tatra Basin, more exactly its subdivision Liptov Basin, surrounded by the mountain ranges of Chočské vrchy, Greater Fatra and Low Tatras. The 1995 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships were held in Nottingham, United Kingdom under the auspices of International Canoe Federation at the Holme Pierrepont National Watersports Centre. 2013 European Canoe Slalom Championships
The 2013 European Canoe Slalom Championships took place in Kraków, Poland between June 6 and 9, 2013 under the auspices of the European Canoe Association (ECA) at the Kraków-Kolna Canoe Slalom Course. It was the 14th edition and it was the second time that Kraków hosted the event after hosting it in 2008. The competitions were held over two days instead of three due to floods which forced the organizers to shorten the program. The qualification for individual events consisted of a single run instead of two and the semifinal runs were skipped. Therefore, the competitions were decided in two runs instead of four. The women's C1 team event was canceled completely. The 2012 European Canoe Slalom Championships took place in Augsburg, Germany between May 9 and 13, 2012 under the auspices of the European Canoe Association (ECA). It was the 13th edition and Augsburg hosted this event for the second time after its inaugural edition in 1996. The races were held on the Eiskanal which also hosted the 1972 Summer Olympics when canoe slalom made its first appearance at the Olympics. The 2011 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships took place from September 7–11, 2011 in Bratislava, Slovakia under the auspices of International Canoe Federation. It was the 34th edition. The 2010 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships were held 8–12 September 2010 at Tacen Whitewater Course, Slovenia under the auspices of International Canoe Federation for the record-tying third time. It was the 33rd edition. Tacen hosted the event previously in 1955 and 1991 when it was part of Yugoslavia, and joins the following cities that have hosted the event three times: Spittal, Austria (1963, 1965, and 1977); Meran, Italy (1953, 1971, and 1983); Bourg St.-Maurice, France ( 1969, 1987, and 2002); and Augsburg, Germany (1957, 1985, and 2003). Women's single canoe (C1W) events became a medal event after being an exhibition in the previous championships. Ten nations won medals at the championships, the most since the 2005 championships in Penrith. Slovakia was the big winner with five medals including three golds and two silvers. The 2009 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships were held on 9–13 September 2009 at Parc Olímpic del Segre in La Seu d'Urgell, Spain under the auspices of International Canoe Federation.
