"Mindflux" is a song by the British dance outfit N-Joi, released in 1991. The single, despite being released in the United Kingdom, only charted in the United States on ''Billboard''s Hot Dance Club Play chart, reaching number one in 1992, giving the act its first of two number ones on this chart, the other coming from the act's first hit, 1990's "Anthem", which was re-released in 1996 as "The New Anthem". The music video for the single, in which the duo are performing in a concert, featured singer/actress Saffron and a male both dancing on stage. "Mindflux" was used in music intros for BET's ''Video Vibrations'' in the United States from 1992 to 1997. N-Joi
NJOI is an English production duo from Southend, Essex, England, consisting of Nigel Champion and Mark Franklin, (who met at Alleyn Court Prep School) with vocalist/ front person Saffron. Champion went to Framlingham College and Franklin to Felsted School but met up again after school in 1987. Biography Between 1991 and 1996, they entered the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot Dance Club Play chart five times, all of them hitting the top 10. Two of the songs went to number one: "Mindflux" in 1992 and "The New Anthem" in 1996, which was a new version of their debut single "Anthem," itself a top five dance hit from 1991. In 2006 they returned to the top of the Official UK Dance Chart with a set of remixes of their biggest hit "Anthem". "Anthem" is a song by British electronic music group N-Joi. The piano-driven track, which also served as part of their debut EP, has gone on to become one of the most famous signature songs in the act's career, as well as seeing it chart numerous times since its 1990 release. It was originally released in 1990 as a 6 track promo on white label, before being sold on to Deconstruction, where it was released on the EP, ''Music From A State Of Mind'', reaching number 45 on the UK Top 75 in November 1990. Samantha Marie Sprackling (born 3 June 1968), commonly known as Saffron, is a Nigerian-British singer, songwriter, actress and the lead singer of the electronic / alternative rock band Republica. She also performs solo and appeared in London's ''Starlight Express'' for two years. Early life and career Samantha Sprackling was born in Lagos, Nigeria. Her mother was half-Chinese and half-Portuguese and lived in Hong Kong. When she was 18, Sprackling successfully auditioned for Arlene Philips for a part in the musical ''Starlight Express''. Sprackling began singing with N-Joi (their featured vocalist on their 1990 single, "Anthem"), the Shamen, and Jah Wobble. She appeared in the music video for the Chesney Hawkes 1991 hit, " The One and Only", and as a dancer in the music video for N-Joi's single " Mindflux". ''Video Vibrations'' was a 4-hour-long daily video block that showcased popular music videos. It was one of BET's early video shows. The show aired October 1, 1984 until 1997, when it was changed to ''Vibrations''. It was developed to appeal to black audiences and show a wider array of black music than MTV or other networks at the time. The first video on Video Vibrations was Prince's When Doves Cry. In the beginning, due to a limited supply of videos from black artists, popular mainstream white artists with crossover appeal were also featured in the lineup. The 50-position weekly ranking joined ''Billboard''s established Club Songs chart, reduced to the same 50 positions, both under the title Hot Dance/Disco. A coupling from MCA Records' ''Beverly Hills Cop'' soundtrack, Patti LaBelle's " New Attitude" and Harold Faltermeyer's "Axel F", held the No. 1 slot for the chart's first week and was also No. 1 for the second consecutive week on the most played dance/disco chart. The term deconstruction refers to approaches to understanding the relationship between text and meaning. It was introduced by the philosopher Jacques Derrida, who defined it as a turn away from Platonism's ideas of "true" forms and essences which take precedence over appearances, instead considering the constantly changing complex function of language, making static and idealist ideas of it inadequate.
