Video Vibrations
''Video Vibrations'' was a 4-hour-long daily video block that showcased popular music videos. It was one of BET's early video shows. The show aired October 1, 1984 until 1997, when it was changed to ''Vibrations''. It was developed to appeal to black audiences and show a wider array of black music than MTV or other networks at the time. The first video on Video Vibrations was Prince's When Doves Cry. In the beginning, due to a limited supply of videos from black artists, popular mainstream white artists with crossover appeal were also featured in the lineup. As the supply of videos from black artists expanded, so did BET's position as an influential voice of the music industry. Hosts The show was hosted by a VJ speaking offscreen. Black Entertainment Television (acronym BET) is an American basic cable channel targeting African-American audiences. It is owned by the CBS Entertainment Group unit of Paramount Global via BET Networks and has offices in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, and was formerly headquartered in Washington, D.C. When Doves Cry
"When Doves Cry" is a song by American musician Prince, and the lead single from his sixth studio album '' Purple Rain''. According to the DVD commentary of the film '' Purple Rain'' (1984), Prince was asked by director Albert Magnoli to write a song to match the theme of a particular segment of the film that involved intermingled parental difficulties and a love affair. The next morning, Prince had composed two songs, one of which was "When Doves Cry". According to Prince's biographer Per Nilsen, the song was inspired by his relationship with Vanity 6 member Susan Moonsie. Donnie Simpson (born January 30, 1954) is a longtime American radio DJ as well as a television and movie personality. He hosted ''The Donnie Simpson Morning Show'' on Washington, D.C. radio station WPGC-FM from March 1993 to January 29, 2010. Currently, he hosts ''The Donnie Simpson Show'' on D.C.-based radio station WMMJ-FM (Majic 102.3 FM), which began airing on August 17, 2015. ''Rap City'' is a music video television program block that originally aired on the Black Entertainment Television (BET) network from August 11, 1989, to November 8, 2008. The program was an exclusive showcase for hip hop music videos, and features interviews with and freestyles from popular rappers, and often has guest DJs serve as co-hosts. Mindflux
"Mindflux" is a song by the British dance outfit N-Joi, released in 1991. The single, despite being released in the United Kingdom, only charted in the United States on ''Billboard''s Hot Dance Club Play chart, reaching number one in 1992, giving the act its first of two number ones on this chart, the other coming from the act's first hit, 1990's "Anthem", which was re-released in 1996 as "The New Anthem". NJOI is an English production duo from Southend, Essex, England, consisting of Nigel Champion and Mark Franklin, (who met at Alleyn Court Prep School) with vocalist/ front person Saffron. Champion went to Framlingham College and Franklin to Felsted School but met up again after school in 1987. Biography Between 1991 and 1996, they entered the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot Dance Club Play chart five times, all of them hitting the top 10. Two of the songs went to number one: "Mindflux" in 1992 and "The New Anthem" in 1996, which was a new version of their debut single "Anthem," itself a top five dance hit from 1991.
