N-Joi
NJOI is an English production duo from Southend, Essex, England, consisting of Nigel Champion and Mark Franklin, (who met at Alleyn Court Prep School) with vocalist/ front person Saffron. Champion went to Framlingham College and Franklin to Felsted School but met up again after school in 1987. Biography Between 1991 and 1996, they entered the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot Dance Club Play chart five times, all of them hitting the top 10. Two of the songs went to number one: "Mindflux" in 1992 and "The New Anthem" in 1996, which was a new version of their debut single "Anthem," itself a top five dance hit from 1991. In 2006 they returned to the top of the Official UK Dance Chart with a set of remixes of their biggest hit "Anthem". Anthem (N-Joi Song)
"Anthem" is a song by British electronic music group N-Joi. The piano-driven track, which also served as part of their debut EP, has gone on to become one of the most famous signature songs in the act's career, as well as seeing it chart numerous times since its 1990 release. Background The song charted on both the UK and US charts. "Mindflux" is a song by the British dance outfit N-Joi, released in 1991. The single, despite being released in the United Kingdom, only charted in the United States on ''Billboard''s Hot Dance Club Play chart, reaching number one in 1992, giving the act its first of two number ones on this chart, the other coming from the act's first hit, 1990's "Anthem", which was re-released in 1996 as "The New Anthem". The music video for the single, in which the duo are performing in a concert, featured singer/actress Saffron and a male both dancing on stage. Samantha Marie Sprackling (born 3 June 1968), commonly known as Saffron, is a Nigerian-British singer, songwriter, actress and the lead singer of the electronic / alternative rock band Republica. She also performs solo and appeared in London's ''Starlight Express'' for two years. Early life and career Samantha Sprackling was born in Lagos, Nigeria. Her mother was half-Chinese and half-Portuguese and lived in Hong Kong. When she was 18, Sprackling successfully auditioned for Arlene Philips for a part in the musical ''Starlight Express''. Sprackling began singing with N-Joi (their featured vocalist on their 1990 single, "Anthem"), the Shamen, and Jah Wobble. Republica are an English alternative rock band formed in 1994. The height of their popularity spanned from 1996 to 1999. The current line-up consists of Saffron (vocals), Tim Dorney (keyboards), Johnny Male (guitar), Conor Lawrence (drums). The Republica sound was described by the band as "technopop punk rock".
