Michael Billmeyer House
The Michael Billmeyer House, aka the Bensell-Billmeyer House, is a historic twin house in the Mount Airy section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was built around 1730 by John George Bensell. Michael Billmeyer, the noted printer of Germantown, purchased it in 1789. It is said that from this point, General George Washington directed the Continental forces in the Battle of Germantown against the British stronghold at Cliveden. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. It is a contributing property of the Colonial Germantown Historic District. The Battle of Germantown was a major engagement in the Philadelphia campaign of the American Revolutionary War. It was fought on October 4, 1777, at Germantown, Pennsylvania, between the British Army led by Sir William Howe, and the American Continental Army under George Washington. Cliveden (Benjamin Chew House)
Cliveden ( or ), also known as the Chew House, is a historic site owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, located in the Mount Airy neighborhood of Northwest Philadelphia. Built as a country house for attorney Benjamin Chew, Cliveden was completed in 1767 and was home to seven generations of the Chew family. Cliveden has long been famous as the site of the American Revolutionary War's Battle of Germantown in 1777 as well as for its Georgian architecture. New research is unearthing a more complicated history at Cliveden, which involves layers of significance, including the lives of those who were enslaved and in service to the Chew family. Daniel Billmeyer House
The Daniel Billmeyer House is a historic house in the Mount Airy section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The 1793 section of the house was built by printer and wealthy businessman Michael Billmeyer for his son Daniel. The house was built in two sections. The first was built c. 1730 and was occupied by British troops during the Battle of Germantown.
