Mark Holland (baseball)
Mark Holland (born October 16, 1974) is a Canadian politician who serves as Minister of Health since July 26, 2023. A member of the Liberal Party, Holland represents Ajax in the House of Commons. He has previously served as Government House Leader from 2021 to 2023, and as Chief Government Whip from 2018 to 2021. He was elected to the House of Commons of Canada in the 2004 federal election in the riding of Ajax—Pickering. Holland was subsequently re-elected in the 2006 and 2008 elections, but was defeated in 2011. He worked for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, before returning to politics to run in the 2015 election, where he was elected to represent Ajax. Peter Alexander Fillmore (born April 25, 1966) is a Canadian Liberal politician who has represented the riding of Halifax in the House of Commons of Canada since 2015. Early life and education Born in Bloomington, Indiana to Atlantic Canadian parents studying abroad in the United States, Fillmore returned to the family's native Nova Scotia at the age of four. 2004 Canadian Federal Election
The 2004 Canadian federal election was held on June 28, 2004, to elect members to the House of Commons of Canada of the 38th Parliament of Canada. The Liberal government of Prime Minister Paul Martin lost its majority but was able to continue in office as a minority government after the election. This was the first election contested by the newly amalgamated Conservative Party of Canada, after it was formed by the two right-of-centre parties, the Progressive Conservative Party and the Canadian Alliance. On May 23, 2004, the governor general, Adrienne Clarkson, on the advice of Martin, ordered the dissolution of the House of Commons, triggering an early election despite the Liberals being only three and a half years into their five-year mandate. In Canada, a party whip is the member of a political party in the House of Commons of Canada, the Senate of Canada or a provincial legislative assembly charged with ensuring party discipline among members of that party's caucus. The whip is also responsible for assigning offices and scheduling speakers from his or her party for various bills, motions and other proceedings in the legislature.
