Marco Salvador (10 November 1948 – 16 February 2022) was an Italian writer and historian. Biography Born in San Lorenzo di Arzene, Friuli, Salvador published several historical essays, especially about Middle Ages. He also published six historical novels, starting from ''Il Longobardo'' (2004), dealing with the story of the Lombard 7th-century king Rothari, with which he won the "Città di Cuneo" award. This was followed by ''La vendetta del Longobardo'' (2005) and ''L'ultimo Longobardo'', both set during the Lombard domination of Italy. San Lorenzo Di Arzene
Valvasone Arzene () is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Pordenone in the Italian region Friuli-Venezia Giulia, located about northwest of Trieste and about east of Pordenone. It was formed on 1 January 2015 after the merger of the previous ''comuni'' of Valvasone and Arzene. Valvasone is listed in the most beautiful villages in Italy. History The early history of the castle of Valvasone tells how in 1218 CE the original manor-house was kept by Ulvino and Bonfante for the Patriarch of Aquileia. These were the founders of the first feudal family, but in 1268 this family was killed during the rebellion of Corrado from Valvasone. The side of the Tagliamento River, which flows near the town, was too strategically important to leave it without any form of control, so the Patriarch assigned Walterpertoldo from Spilimbergo to control the area. Lombards
The Lombards () or Langobards ( la, Langobardi) were a Germanic people who ruled most of the Italian Peninsula from 568 to 774. The medieval Lombard historian Paul the Deacon wrote in the ''History of the Lombards'' (written between 787 and 796) that the Lombards descended from a small tribe called the Winnili,: "From Proto-Germanic '' winna-'', meaning "to fight, win" who dwelt in southern Scandinavia (''Scadanan'') before migrating to seek new lands. Rothari
Rothari (or Rothair) ( 606 – 652), of the Harodingi, house of Arodus, was king of the Lombards from 636 to 652; previously he had been duke of Brescia. He succeeded Arioald, who was an Arianism, Arian like himself, and was one of the most energetic of Lombard kings. Fredegar relates (''Chronicle'', 71) that at the beginning of his reign he put to death many insubordinate nobles, and that in his efforts for peace he maintained very strict discipline. Life Rothari was the son of Nanding, and Duke of Brescia. Upon the death of Arioald in 636, he was elected King of the Lombards. Ezzelino III da Romano (25 April 1194, Tombolo, Veneto, Tombolo7 October 1259) was an Italian feudal lord, a member of the Ezzelino family, in the March of Treviso (in modern Veneto).
