Manga Sarutobi Sasuke
is a 24-episode anime series about the young Sarutobi Sasuke, a legendary ninja. It was first aired from October 9, 1979, to April 29, 1980, on Tokyo 12 Channel (now TV Tokyo), and was later dubbed in several languages. The whole 24-episode run was aired in many European and Arabic countries. It is best known to the American fans as ''Ninja, The Wonder Boy'': a highly edited, highly condensed feature-length version of this series. is a ninja who appears in kōdan narrative art and fictional writings. The nickname is generally believed to have been concocted from Meiji to the Taishō period. Some argue he is based on real live personages, such as and . His family name, meaning "monkey jump", is written with two kanji; ''saru'' (猿) is the character for "monkey", and ''tobi'' (飛) is the character for "jump". He was known for his monkey-like agility and quickness, especially in trees. Dubbing (re-recording and mixing) is a post-production process used in filmmaking and video production, often in concert with sound design, in which additional or supplementary recordings are lip-synced and "mixed" with original production sound to create the finished soundtrack. In the United States, this series was primarily shown only in New England, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, though it did make brief appearances in other markets, such as Texas and Northern California on KICU-TV 36. It was also shown in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on CFMT channel 47 and in Asia on Star Plus during the 1990s. It was produced by Jim Terry and his company American Way, and it consisted of five imported Japanese giant robot serials (originally produced in the mid-1970s by Toei Animation) in response to the popularity of the Shogun Warriors toy collection.
