Manaf Younis
Manaf Younus Hashim Al-Tekreeti ( ar, مَنَاف يُونُس هَاشِم التِّكرِيْتِيّ; born 16 November 1996) is an Iraqi professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Iraqi Premier League club Al-Shorta and the Iraq national team. Club career In March 2020 Manaf signed for Al-Shorta on loan until the end of the season. International career In November 2021, Younis was called up to Iraq as part of their 2021 FIFA Arab Cup squad. He made his debut in the starting line-up for the national team in their opening match against Oman. On 19 January 2023, he scored his first international goal in the stoppage time of extra-time in a 3–2 win over Oman in the 25th Arabian Gulf Cup final, to earn his country their first title in the competition since 1988. Basra International Stadium ( ar, مدينة البصرة الرياضية) is a sports complex in Basra, southern Iraq. Overview Its construction started on 1 January 2009 and was completed on 12 October 2013. The sports city was funded by the government of Iraq with a budget of $550 million. It contains a main stadium with a capacity of 65,000 people, a Al Fayhaa Stadium, secondary stadium with a capacity of 10,000, four Five Star hotels and other sports-related facilities. The Arabian Gulf Cup ( ar, كأس الخليج العربي, ''Kass Al-Khaleej Al-Arabi''), often referred to simply as the Gulf Cup, is a biennial football competition governed by the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation for its eight member nations. The Iraqi Super Cup ( ar, كأس السوبر العراقي), previously called Iraqi Perseverance Cup ( ar, كأس المثابرة العراقي), is Iraqi football's annual match contested between the champions of the previous Iraqi Premier League season and the holders of the Iraq FA Cup. If the Premier League champions also won the FA Cup then the league runners-up provide the opposition. The fixture is a recognised football super cup. The 2021–22 Iraq FA Cup is the 33rd edition of the Iraqi knockout football cup competition, the main domestic cup in Iraqi football, featuring a record 168 clubs from the top four tiers of the Iraqi football league system, (20 from the Iraqi Premier League, 24 from the Iraq Division One and 124 from the Iraq Division Two and Iraq Division Three). The competition began on 10 September 2021 with the first-round matches involving teams from the third and fourth tiers, and will conclude in 2022 with the final at Al-Shaab Stadium in Baghdad. Iraq FA Cup
The Iraq FA Cup, known as the Iraq Cup ( ar, كأس العراق) in Arabic, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic Iraqi football. First held in the 1948–49 season for clubs and institutions before returning in 1975–76 for clubs only, it is organised by the Iraq Football Association. The tournament begins with several rounds played between lower division clubs, twelve of which advance to the Round of 32, where the Iraqi Premier League clubs are entered. This is followed by the Round of 16, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the final which is played as a single leg in Baghdad. The winners of the competition are awarded a place in the next season's AFC Cup group stage as well as qualifying for the Iraqi Super Cup where they play against the league champions at the start of the following season (or the league runners-up, if the cup winners have won the double). Basra
Basra ( ar, ٱلْبَصْرَة, al-Baṣrah) is an Iraqi city located on the Shatt al-Arab. It had an estimated population of 1.4 million in 2018. Basra is also Iraq's main port, although it does not have deep water access, which is handled at the port of Umm Qasr.
