Llibre Del Consolat De Mar
The ''Book of the Consulate of the Sea'' ( ca, Llibre del Consolat de Mar, lit=''Book of the Consulate of Sea'') is a compendium of maritime law that governed trade in the Mediterranean for centuries. Of Catalan origin, it was translated into many languages and served as the basis for current international maritime law. When setting the first Consulate of the Sea in Valencia, king Peter III of Aragon decided to apply the maritime customs of Barcelona, called , which had not yet been codified, although there did already exist in Barcelona another compilation of maritime rules, called , which established norms for policing harbours and coastal waters.'' The merit of the ''Book of the Consulate of the Sea'' is that it is the first work to collect the scattered laws and customs of Roman, Greek, Byzantine, Rhodian, Italian, French and Spanish maritime rights. Antonio De Capmany Y Montpalau
Antonio de Capmany y Montpalau (24 November 1742Cadis, Andalusia, 14 November 1813) was a Spanish polygraph. Life Campany was born at Barcelona, and studied logic and humanities at the Jesuit-run College of Bishops in Barcelona. He entered the army and took part in the 1762 Spanish campaign in Portugal. He retired from the army in 1770, and was subsequently elected secretary of the Royal Academy of History in Madrid. He was elected deputy for the Principality of Catalonia in the Cortes of Cádiz, one of 51 deputies of Catalonia in that Constituent Assembly. Capmany died in Barcelona on 14 November 1813. His monograph on the history of his birthplace still preserves much of its original value.
