Armenia

Armine Kalents
Armine Kalents, also Armine Galents, née Paronyan (arm. Արմինե Կալենց, 18 August 1920, Damascus – 22 November 2007, Yerevan) was an Armenian artist, Honored Artist of the USSR (1967). Life Armine Paronyan was born on 18 August 1920 in Damascus, Syria. Her parents Tigranuhi and Sargis Paronyans were teachers originally from Adapazar, Turkey. The family escaped from the genocide and fled the Ottoman Empire. Paronyan’s father died when she was a baby, and her mother had to escape with Armine and her older brother Aram. They lived in Istanbul for six years until they moved to Aleppo, Syria in 1926. From 1926 to 1935 Paronyan studied at the Haigazian Saint Joseph school in Aleppo, and then at the Jerusalem Church in Jerusalem. In 1938-1939 Paronyan studied in the studio of a famous painter Haroutiun Kalents. On 2 May 1943, Paronyan married Haroutiun Kalents in the St. Nishan Church in Beirut. Lilit Teryan
Lilit Teryan or Liliet Teryan (31 December 1930 – 7 March 2019) was an Iranian born sculptor of Armenian heritage. She had to cease teaching sculpture when it was prohibited in Tehran. She began to exhibit in 2008 and then to teach again. She has been called the Mother of Iranian sculpture. Life Teryan was born in Tehran in 1930. She was born in the Naderi area of the city. Her parents were from Armenia. Her mother had been trained as an artist in France and her father worked for the Bank of Tehran. Her mother helped to train her daughters artistic skills. She took formal art training in Paris at the Beaux Art Academy. She was trained to teach sculpture and was one of the first to teach in Iran. She taught at the Faculty of Decorative Arts at the University of Tehran. After the revolution the teaching of sculpture became illegal and she had to continue the teaching in secrecy. Lilit Soghomonyan (, born on February 18, 1969, in Yerevan) is an Armenian artist. Biography Lilit Soghomonyan was born in 1969 in Yerevan in the artistic family of Van Soghomonyan and Nona Gabrielyan. She studied at Fine Arts and Drama Institute, Yerevan, Armenia (1985-1991). Hripsime Simonyan
Hripsime Simonyan (, born on January 2 (15), 1916 in Kars – September 28, 1998, Yerevan) was an Armenian artist and sculptor, who made an invaluable contribution to the development of decorative art and ceramics. She was rewarded as being hePeople's Artist of Armenia (1974). Career Hripsime Simonyan was born in 1916 in Kars. In 1945, she graduated from the Tbilisi Art academy, majoring in sculpture, minor ceramics (several Professors Y. Nicoladze, S. Kobuladze). From 1956 she took over the position of head of ceramics department of the Yerevan State Art and Theatre institute, from 1977 she has been awarded with a professor degree. In 1945, she started the department of applied arts within the Armenian Painters' (Artist) Association, which she led until 1975. Arpenik Nalbandyan
Arpenik Nalbandyan ( hy, Արփենիկ Նալբանդյան, December 23, 1916 – May 17, 1964) was a Soviet-Armenian artist. Biography Arpenik Nalbandyan was born on 23 December 1916 in Tbilisi. From 1935 to 1941 she studied painting at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, Georgia. Nalbandyan became a member of the Armenian Artists Union in 1943. In 1946 she started to teach at the Yerevan Institution of Fine Arts and Theater. In 1948 and 1952 she was elected as deputy of City Council. In 1956 she was awarded the "Honored worker" medal, and 1957 she was appointed to teach in Moscow. In 1961 she became Honorary Artist of the Armenian SSR. Alina Mnatsakanian (born 1958) is an Iranian-born American-Swiss visual artist, of Armenians, Armenian descent, known for her conceptual installations in various media (video, sound, robotics, objects) and her style of painting and drawing called ''Marks''. Identity, borders, and injustice are her preferred themes. She lives and works in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Varteni Mosdichian (, born on June 24, 1953) is a Boston-based Armenian American artist. Early life Varteni Mosdichian was born in 1953 in Istanbul to the Armenian family of Manouk Mosdichian and Zepur Elmayan. Her grantparents’ roots go back to Kayseri (Caesarea) in Central Anatolia and Bafra. She was educated at the Sourp Mesrobyan School, later at the Austrian Saint George Gymnasium. At age 16 she came to Boston, Massachusetts, where she attended Lynn Classical High School and gained an early acceptance to California Institute of Arts. Tereza Gaikovna Mirzoyan ( hy, Թերեզա Միրզոյան; August 11, 1922, Kirovokan, Armenian SSR, Soviet Union — 7 August 2016, Yerevan, Armenia) was an Armenian sculptor.
