Lemvig Museum
Lemvig Museum is a local museum in Lemvig, Denmark. It has a number of exhibits about local points of interest, which is the subject of a major multimedia exhibition. Most notably is the exhibition of the Russian frigate Alexander Nevsky which wrecked in September 1868 on the coast between Harboøre and Thyborøn. The museum features works by several local artists including sculptor Torvald Westergaard (1901-1988) and the painters Niels Bjerre (1864–1942), Kristen Bjerre (1869–1943) and Jens Søndergaard (1895-1957) presented at the museum. Also featured as part of the museum is the "Planetary Path," a trail which features a model of the Solar System at a 1 to 1 billion scale. Russian Frigate Alexander Nevsky
''Alexander Nevsky'' (russian: italic=yes, Александр Невский) was a large screw frigate of the Russian Imperial Navy. The ship was designed as part of a challenge being offered by the Russian Empire to the Royal Navy, but was lost in a shipwreck in 1868 while Grand Duke Alexei, son of Tsar Alexander II, was aboard. History ''Alexander Nevsky'' was a screw frigate of 5,100 tons ( bm) and mounting 51 smoothbore cannon, making her a large vessel for her class. The ship's cannon were all 60-pounder smoothbores, divided into long- and medium-class guns. The vessel was part of the expansion of the Russian Imperial Navy in cooperation with the United States, in order to challenge then-rival Great Britain's Royal Navy. Jens Søndergaard (October 4, 1895 – May 21, 1957) was a Danish expressionist painter. He specialised in strongly coloured landscapes depicting his feelings for the power of nature and the sea. Søndergaard won both national and international acclaim. Biography Jens Andersen Søndergaard was born in the small town Øster Assels on the island of Mors (island), Mors. His father, Anders Søndergaard, was a painter, but later opened a bicycle shop in Hurup Thy, Hurup on Thy (district), Thy. After finishing school, Jens Søndergaard also began training as a painter. After having served his apprenticeship, he was admitted to the technical school in Aarhus. While he worked as a painter, he tried to break through as an artist.
