List Of Area Code Overlays
__TOC__ An area code overlay is a numbering plan area (NPA) in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) that has multiple area codes assigned. Overlay plans are used to increase the number of available telephone numbers in a province, state, or region.Haar, Dan and Vanessa Hua"Regulators Have Area Code Plan" ''The Courant''. August 18, 1999. Accessed October 28, 2005. The North American Numbering Plan Administrator (NANPA) maintains the definitive list of overlays in the United States. The majority of overlays have occurred since 1995. The process has been driven by fragmentation of numbering resources by a growing number of competitive local exchange carriers. Active area code overlays Pending and planned overlays Various new area codes are planned or proposed. A few overlay implementations (247 WI, 354 QC, 679 MI, 870 AR, 975 MO, et al.) have been suspended, often because wasteful allocation of telephone numbers has been mitigated by number pooling or other conservation effo ...

North American Numbering Plan
The North American Numbering Plan (NANP) is a telephone numbering plan for twenty-five regions in twenty countries, primarily in North America and the Caribbean. This group is historically known as World Zone 1 and has the international calling code ''1''. Some North American countries, most notably Mexico, do not participate in the NANP. The NANP was originally devised in the 1940s by the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T) for the Bell System and the independent telephone operators in North America. The goal was to unify the diverse local numbering plans that had been established in the preceding decades and prepare the continent for direct-dialing of calls by customers without the involvement of telephone operators. AT&T continued to administer the numbering plan until the breakup of the Bell System, when administration was delegated to the North American Numbering Plan Administrator (NANPA), a service that has been procured from the private sector by the Fede ...

Area Code 236
Area codes 778, 236, and 672 are area codes in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for the entire Canadian province of British Columbia. They form an overlay complex with area code 604, which serves only a small southwestern section, the Lower Mainland, of the province (including Vancouver), and area code 250, which serves the rest of the province. The area codes also serve the small United States community of Hyder, Alaska, which is located along the Canada–United States border near the town of Stewart. History Area code 604 had served as British Columbia's sole area code for 53 years since the establishment of the North American Numbering Plan in 1947. In 1997, area code 250 was installed for Vancouver Island and the Interior, while area code 604 was restricted to serve Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. Intended as a long-term solution, the proliferation of telephone service in the area required additional central office code relief within only four years. While telephon ...

Area Code 570 And 272
Area codes 570 and 272 are telephone area codes serving the northeast quadrant of Pennsylvania, including the cities/towns of Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Williamsport, Stroudsburg, East Stroudsburg, Pittston, Carbondale, Hazleton, Clarks Summit, Towanda, Bloomsburg, Sayre, Tunkhannock, Berwick, Milford, Montrose, Honesdale, Pocono Pines, Nanticoke, Tamaqua, Shavertown, Dallas, Mahanoy City, Sunbury, Jim Thorpe, as far south as Pottsville and as far west as Lock Haven. 570 is the main area code, while 272 is an overlay covering the same territory as 570. 570 was split from area code 717 on December 5, 1998. It was the first new Pennsylvania area code created outside Philadelphia and Pittsburgh since the implementation of the area code system. In 2009, it was projected that 570 would run out of numbers in the third quarter of 2011. The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission considered four options—an overlay plan and three split plans. All but one of the splits wo ...

Area Codes 215, 267, And 445
Area codes 215, 267, and 445 are the North American telephone area codes for the City of Philadelphia as well as adjacent portions of Bucks and Montgomery counties in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The original area code is 215, which was established in 1947, while 267 and 445 are overlay codes for the same numbering plan area (NPA). In 1947, when AT&T established the North American Numbering Plan, 215 included the entire southeastern part of the Commonwealth, from the Delaware border to the Lehigh Valley. Pennsylvania was divided into four numbering plan areas, the second most in the Bell System after New York State, a status shared with Illinois, Ohio, and Texas. On January 8, 1994, the western and northern portions of the original 215 territory, ''i.e.'', Philadelphia's western suburbs, most of Berks County, and the Lehigh Valley, changed to area code 610, while Philadelphia and its northern suburbs retained 215. However, three central office codes were moved from 215 ...

Central Ontario
Central Ontario is a secondary region of Southern Ontario in the Canadian province of Ontario that lies between Georgian Bay and the eastern end of Lake Ontario. The population of the region was 1,123,307 in 2016; however, this number does not include large numbers of seasonal cottage country residents, which at peak times of the year swell its population to well in excess of 1.5 million. Although it contains many small and medium-sized urban centres, much of Central Ontario is covered by farms, lakes (with freshwater beaches), rivers or sparsely populated forested land on the southern edge of the Canadian Shield. Definitions Central Ontario is located within the primary region of Southern Ontario, which places it geographically in the south-central part of the province. Although most of the census divisions (which in Ontario take the form of counties, regional and district municipalities, territorial districts, and some cities) in the south-central tier of the province are commo ...

Northeastern Ontario
Northeastern Ontario is a secondary region of Northern Ontario in the Canadian province of Ontario, which lies north of Lake Huron and east of Lake Superior. Northeastern Ontario consists of the districts of Algoma, Sudbury, Cochrane, Timiskaming, Nipissing and Manitoulin. For some purposes, Parry Sound District and Muskoka District Municipality are treated as part of Northeastern Ontario although they are geographically in Central Ontario. These two divisions are coloured in green on the map. Northeastern Ontario and Northwestern Ontario may also be grouped together as Northern Ontario. An important difference between the two sub-regions is that Northeastern Ontario has a sizable Franco-Ontarian population — approximately 25 per cent of the region's population speaks French as a first language, compared with 3.2 per cent in the northwest. Virtually the entire region, except only the Manitoulin District, is designated as a French-language service area under Ontario's Frenc ...

Area Code 705
Area codes 705 and 249 are telephone area codes in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for most of Northeastern Ontario, northeastern and central Ontario in Canada. Area code 705 was created in a 1957 split from portions of the area code 613, 613 and area code 519, 519 numbering plan areas. After a reduction in geographic coverage in 1962, the region covered by this area code was assigned a second area code, 249, in an overlay plan in 2011. A third area code, 683, was then added, effective June 2022. History Ontario received two area codes, area code 416, 416 and area code 613, 613, in the original North American area codes, initial configuration of the North American Numbering Plan in 1947. Area code 416, in the southern part of the province, was split in 1953 to form area code 519 in the western part of the province. In 1957, area code 705 was created from portions of the 613 and 519 numbering plan areas and served nearly all of Ontario north and west of the Golden Horsesho ...

Maryland
Maryland ( ) is a state in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. It shares borders with Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia to its south and west; Pennsylvania to its north; and Delaware and the Atlantic Ocean to its east. Baltimore is the largest city in the state, and the capital is Annapolis. Among its occasional nicknames are '' Old Line State'', the ''Free State'', and the '' Chesapeake Bay State''.
