List Of Painters In The Collection Of The Frans Hals Museum
This is an incomplete list of painters in the collection of the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem, Netherlands, with the number of artworks represented, and sorted by century of birth. For more information about the collection which comprises more than 760 works, see Frans Hals Museum. More than 100 works are by unknown or anonymous painters, and though over 200 individual artists are in the collection, many of these are represented by only one work, which is often a commemorative portrait of a Haarlem politician. The collection was founded by the Haarlem city council and the first gallery was in the city hall itself. The highlights of the collection are the oldest works such as former altarpieces from Haarlem churches, but also large works for other former Haarlem institutions by Frans Hals, Maarten van Heemskerck, and Jan de Bray. Abraham Bloemaert
Abraham Bloemaert (25 December 1566 – 27 January 1651) was a Dutch painter and printmaker in etching and engraving. He was initially working in the style of the "Haarlem Mannerists", but in the 16th century altered his style in line with the new Baroque style that was then developing. He mostly painted history subjects and some landscapes. He was an important teacher, who trained most of the Utrecht Caravaggisti, at least for a period. Aart Van Antum
Aert Anthoniszoon (abbreviated Anthonisz.) or Anthonissen, also known as Aart or Aert van Antum (born ; buried 7 September 1620) was a Dutch marine painter. Life and career Aert Anthoniszoon was born at Antwerp. His parents moved the family to Amsterdam in 1591. He was possibly a pupil of Hendrick Cornelisz Vroom. In 1603, when he married Baycken Coutermans from Mechelen he signed a document in Amsterdam stating that he was 23 years old and had lived there for 12 years. Schoorl is a village in the Netherlands, Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Bergen, North Holland, Bergen, and lies about 8 km northwest of Alkmaar. Jan Van Scorel
Jan van Scorel (1 August 1495 – 6 December 1562) was a Dutch painter, who played a leading role in introducing aspects of Italian Renaissance painting into Dutch and Flemish Renaissance painting. He was one of the early painters of the Romanist style who had spent a number of years in Italy, where he thoroughly absorbed the Italian style of painting. His trip to Italy coincided with the brief reign of the only Dutch pope in history, Adrian VI in 1522–23. The pope made him a court painter and superintendent of his collection of antiquities. His stay in Italy lasted from 1518 to 1524 and he also visited Nuremberg, Venice and Jerusalem. Venetian art had an important impact on the development of his style. He differed from most Romanists in that he was a native of the northern Netherlands and not of Flanders and that he remained most of his life in the northern Netherlands.
