Libertas Estonia
Libertas Estonia ( et, Libertas Eesti Erakond, LEE) was a political party in Estonia. It intended to contend the 2009 European Parliament elections under a common banner with Libertas.eu. Estonian Blue Party (1994–2001) The Estonian Blue Party (''Eesti Sinine Erakond'', ESE) was founded on 29 November 1994 in Tallinn, Estonia. It was registered at the Harju registry on 28 October 1998, registration number 80053499. It attempted to join the Development Party (Arengupartei) in October 2000 but the attempt failed. Democrats – Estonian Democratic Party (2001–2009) On 1 February 2001 ESE became Democrats – Estonian Democratic Party (''Demokraadid – Eesti Demokraatlik Partei'', EDP). On 21 July 2005 it announced it would cooperate with the Pro Patria Union in local elections. Tallinn () is the most populous and capital city of Estonia. 2009 European Parliament Election
The 2009 European Parliament election was held in the 27 member states of the European Union (EU) between 4 and 7 June 2009. A total of 736 Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) were elected to represent some 500 million Europeans, making these the biggest trans-national elections in history. An additional 18 observers ("virtual MEPs") were (supposed to be) pre-elected. Pro Patria Union
The Pro Patria Union ( et, Isamaaliit, meaning literally Fatherland Union) was a national-conservative political party in Estonia. The party was founded on 2 December 1995 from a merger of the Estonian National Independence Party and the Pro Patria National Coalition. On 4 April 2006, representatives of the Pro Patria Union and the representatives of Res Publica decided to merge the two parties. The merger was approved by the general assemblies of both parties in Pärnu on 4 June 2006. Although originally the name ''For Estonia'' (''Eesti Eest'') was considered for the united party, it was rejected. New party was officially registered on 15 October 2006 under the name Pro Patria and Res Publica Union. According to party statements, the programme was based on Christian democracy and nationalism. Eesti Iseseisvuspartei
The Estonian Independence Party ( et, Eesti Iseseisvuspartei, EIP) was a far-right nationalist political party in Estonia. The party, founded in 1999, is a successor to the Estonian Future Party. One of the principal aims of the party is the withdrawal of Estonia from the European Union. Philosophy The EIP's political philosophy promotes a doctrine of “Estonia as a neo-autarkic geopolitical space” and an associated geopolitical imperative of neutrality between the East and the West. The party programme states that Estonia is extraordinarily rich in natural resources (much of these remain latent) and is situated in an important geopolitical space. Thus, the party is also against Estonia belonging to the European Union, which they accuse of having neocolonised Estonia. The party recommended rejecting International Monetary Fund suggestions. 2009 European Parliament Election In Estonia
An election for Members of the European Parliament from Estonia to the European Parliament was held on 7 June 2009. Turnout was 43.9% – about 17.1% higher than during the previous election five years before. The turnout was also slightly above the European average of 42.94%. Six seats were up for taking in this election: two of them were won by the Estonian Centre Party. Estonian Reform Party, Union of Pro Patria and Res Publica, Social Democratic Party and an independent candidate Indrek Tarand all won one seat each. The election result was remarkable in that the independent candidate Indrek Tarand gathered the support of 102,460 voters, only 1,046 votes less than the winner of the election, Estonian Centre Party, surpassing the results of all other major and minor parties.
