Legune Station
Legune Station is a pastoral lease that operates as a cattle station in the Northern Territory of Australia. Situated close to the border of Western Australia, it is approximately east of Kununurra and east of the live export port of Wyndham in Western Australia and south-west of Darwin in the Northern Territory. The property occupies a total area of , including a portion of floodplain country adjacent to the Ord River. It is capable of carrying 32,000 head of cattle. In 2014 the property had been placed on the market for an estimated 60 million; it had been last listed in 2008 with a 70 million price tag. Legune was originally an outstation of the Victoria River Downs Station. The property was acquired by Leslie Joseph Hooker at some time prior to 1980. Hooker sold the property to the Malaysian Sabah state government in the early 1980s for 2 million. ''The Morning Bulletin'' is an online newspaper servicing the city of Rockhampton and the surrounding areas of Central Queensland, Australia. Leslie Joseph Hooker
Sir Leslie Joseph Hooker (18 August 1903 – 29 April 1976) (born Leslie Joseph Tingyou) was an Australian property entrepreneur, businessman and philanthropist. From humble beginnings he created the LJ Hooker empire and was at one time Australia's largest landholder and the world's largest cattle owner. He was knighted in 1973 for services to commerce. Early life Hooker was born in Canterbury, Sydney, New South Wales. His mother, Ellen ("Nellie") Tingyou, was 18 and unmarried when she gave birth to him. They lived with their extended family, which included his grandfather, the Chinese-born James Tingyou. Nellie died at age 25 of tuberculosis, leaving Leslie an orphan at just 8 years of age. Victoria River Downs Station, also known as Victoria Downs and often referred to as The Big Run, is a pastoral lease that operates as a cattle station in the Northern Territory of Australia. Location It is located about south east of Timber Creek and west of Daly Waters in the Northern Territory.
