Leslie Joseph Hooker
Sir Leslie Joseph Hooker (18 August 1903 – 29 April 1976) (born Leslie Joseph Tingyou) was an Australian property entrepreneur, businessman and philanthropist. From humble beginnings he created the LJ Hooker empire and was at one time Australia's largest landholder and the world's largest cattle owner. He was knighted in 1973 for services to commerce. Early life Hooker was born in Canterbury, Sydney, New South Wales. His mother, Ellen ("Nellie") Tingyou, was 18 and unmarried when she gave birth to him. They lived with their extended family, which included his grandfather, the Chinese-born James Tingyou. Nellie died at age 25 of tuberculosis, leaving Leslie an orphan at just 8 years of age. He was raised by his extended family and attended public schools in Canterbury and Beecroft. Canterbury, New South Wales
Canterbury is a suburb extending across south-western Sydney and the Inner West, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Canterbury is located south-west of the Sydney central business district in the City of Canterbury-Bankstown. The former City of Canterbury took its name from the suburb, however its administrative centre was located in the adjacent suburb of Campsie, which is also a large commercial centre. Neil O'Sullivan
Sir Michael Neil O'Sullivan KBE (2 August 1900 – 4 July 1968) was an Australian politician and lawyer. He served as a Senator for Queensland from 1947 to 1962, representing the Liberal Party. He held senior ministerial positions in the post-war Menzies Government, serving as Minister for Trade and Customs (1949–56), Minister for the Navy (1956), and Attorney-General (1956–58). Early life O'Sullivan was born on 2 August 1900 in Toowong, Queensland. He was the fifth child born to Patrick Alban O'Sullivan and his wife Mary Bridget (née Macgroarty), both of Irish Catholic descent. St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney is a leading tertiary referral hospital and research facility located in Darlinghurst, Sydney. Though funded and integrated into the New South Wales state public health system, it is operated by St Vincent's Health Australia (which also operates St Vincent's Hospital, Melbourne). Janusz Hooker
Leslie Janusz Hooker (born 28 September 1969) is an Australian businessman and former Australian national champion and representative rower who won a bronze medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. Family background and education Hooker's grandfather Leslie Joseph Hooker ("LJ") was born in Canterbury, Sydney and was of Chinese heritage. He started a real estate business in Maroubra, New South Wales in 1928 which by his retirement in 1974, had grown into the LJ Hooker national real estate network with more than 2300 staff and assets of almost $200 million. Arthur Fadden
Sir Arthur William Fadden, (13 April 189421 April 1973) was an Australian politician who served as the 13th prime minister of Australia from 29 August to 7 October 1941. He was the leader of the Country Party from 1940 to 1958 and also served as federal treasurer for nearly ten years (1940–1941, 1949–1958). Fadden was born in Ingham, Queensland, to Irish immigrant parents. He was raised in Walkerston, and left school at the age of 15. He was appointed town clerk of Mackay in 1916, but following the 1918 cyclone moved to Townsville and opened an accountancy firm. He was elected to the Townsville City Council in 1930, and in 1932 was elected to the Queensland Legislative Assembly for the Country and Progressive National Party.
