Legitmix
Legitmix was a Canadian company that offered services to artists who create remixes. The company launched in 2011 and had offices in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and Brooklyn, New York. Legitmix sold files that rebuild a remixed song on a user's hard drive using the listener's copies of the sampled tracks. Remixers received 70% of the price of their Legitmix files, while copyright holders got paid for the purchase of the original tracks used in the remix. Music files used to construct remixes had to be exact matches to the ones legally sold through Legitmix. Because listeners were required to purchase or already own the original tracks used in a remix, the recreated remix might have been several times more expensive than the cost of an individual song. Remix
A remix (or reorchestration) is a piece of media which has been altered or contorted from its original state by adding, removing, or changing pieces of the item. A song, piece of artwork, book, video, poem, or photograph can all be remixes. The only characteristic of a remix is that it appropriates and changes other materials to create something new. Most commonly, remixes are a subset of audio mixing in music and song recordings. The Hood Internet is an American record production duo based in Chicago, Illinois, specializing in mashups. It is composed of Aaron Brink (ABX) and Steve Reidell (STV SLV). History In 2007, the Hood Internet started posting the mashup tracks to their website. ''New York'' categorized the duo's mashup track of Chris Brown and A. C. Newman, titled "Drug Drug Kiss Kiss", in the "lowbrow" and "brilliant" quadrant of their Approval Matrix in 2007.
