Layang-Layang, Johor
Layang-Layang is a town in Kluang District, Johor, Malaysia. It is situated within the parliamentary constituency of Simpang Renggam. It is located approximately 72 km north of Johor Bahru and 32 km south of Kluang. It was developed in the early 20th century and became one of the Chinese new villages during the military conflict between Malaya Communists and the Britain colonial government. Until the 1990s, Layang-Layang's major community was Chinese, but it is gradually transforming to a Malay major community following the outflow of the Chinese young generation, who commonly have a trend of settling in cities such as Johor Bahru, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore for higher income and better opportunities. Kluang
Kluang ( Jawi: كلواڠ), formerly Keluang, is a town in Kluang District, Johor, Malaysia. Kluang was founded in 1915 as the administrative capital of central Johor by the British. It is located in the centre of the state and is within 90 minutes of all major urban areas of Johor. Kluang, combined with Batu Pahat, encompasses central Johor with a market catchment of over 700,000. Over the 20th century, Kluang's economy transitioned from rubber to palm oil and now has some of Malaysia's largest organic farms. The industrial sector has also grown significantly with multinational investment and a critical mass of tile manufacturers enabling the district to be called the 'tile capital of Malaysia'. Simpang Renggam or Sisi Khoo is a town in Kluang District, Johor, Malaysia. Now Simpang Renggam is under the administration of Simpang Renggam District Council ( ms, Majlis Daerah Simpang Renggam). Guthrie Group Limited ( ms, Kumpulan Guthrie Berhad) was a Singaporean-Malaysian company that primarily dealt with plantations. It merged with three other plantation groups to form the world's largest plantation company with the name of Sime Darby Berhad. Guthrie was founded in Singapore in 1821 by Alexander Guthrie as the first British trading company in Southeast Asia.
