Laois Junior Hurling Championship
The Laois Junior Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition contested by lower-tier Laois GAA clubs. Ballypickas are the title holders (2021) defeating near neighbours Abbeyleix in the Final. Ballypickas are both the current holders and joint most winners at this grade along with Camross (8). Honours The trophy presented to the winners is the Fr Phelan Cup. The winners of the Laois Junior Championship qualify to represent their county in the Leinster Junior Club Hurling Championship. They often do well there, with the likes of Ballyfin (2011) getting to a Leinster Final after winning the Laois Junior Hurling Championship but Kilkenny GAA club St Patrick's beat them on their way to the All-Ireland title. Hurling
Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. The ' can be caught in the hand and carried for not more than four steps, struck in the air or struck on the ground with the hurley. Kyle GAA
Kyle GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association hurling club in County Laois, Ireland. Located near Ballaghmore on the County Laois-County Tipperary border, the club colours are blue and white. History Kyle won its only Laois Senior Hurling Championship title in 1951. They were in the 1994 Laois Junior Hurling Championship Final. After a memorable 2006 campaign, Kyle won the Laois Junior Hurling Championship beating neighbours Camross in the final to end a long spell without a championship title. Errill GAA
Errill GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association gaelic football club in Errill in County Laois, Ireland. The club colours are green and white. The club grounds on the Roscrea Road are called Pairc Eireil. The club currently amalgamates at all levels of hurling with neighbouring club Rathdowney and in 2006 the Rathdowney-Errill team won the Laois Senior Hurling Championship for the first time ever. The Errill club has twice won the Laois Senior Hurling Championship, (1938 and 1952) and won the Laois Intermediate Hurling Championship in 1981. It also won the Laois U-21 B Hurling Championship in 1997. Although football would be very much a secondary sport in the area, there has been some success with wins in the Laois Junior C Football Championship in 2000 and 2016 and the Laois Junior B Football Championship in 2017 and 2019. Timahoe GAA
Timahoe GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association gaelic football club in the village of Timahoe, County Laois, Ireland. Club colours are red and white and the club grounds are called Páirc Mochua. It provided the venue for the 1984 All-Ireland Senior Ladies' Football Championship Final, where Kerry defeated Leitrim. Timahoe's only Laois Senior Football Championship title to date came in 1969 when Tom Joe Bradley captained the club to the county title. Bobby Miller was probably one of Timahoe's greatest ever players while former Laois senior star Pauric Clancy was midfielder on the 2003 Laois team which won the Leinster Senior Football Championship. Clonaslee–St Manman's GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association hurling and Gaelic football club in Clonaslee, County Laois, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The club colours are green and white for gaelic football, football and red and white for hurling. History Clonaslee GAA club catered for football and hurling until 1974 when St Manman's Gaelic Football Club was founded and catered exclusively for football. Ballinakill GAA is a hurling and Gaelic football club in Ballinakill, County Laois, Ireland. The club colours are maroon and white and the club grounds are in Ballinakill village near the border with County Kilkenny. History In 1888, the Ballinakill club won the first ever Laois Senior Football Championship but these days the club is more renowned as a hurling heartland. Rosenallis GAA
Rosenallis Gaelic Athletic Association club is a hurling and Gaelic football club in the village of Rosenallis in County Laois, Ireland. The club colours are green and white. The club formerly amalgamated with the Clonaslee–St Manman's club to play senior hurling under the name Tinnahinch. Seamus Dooley, Declan Conroy and John Lennon are three of the club's most famous players, representing Laois at senior hurling level. St Fintan's, Mountrath is a hurling and Gaelic football club in Mountrath, County Laois, Ireland. They play at St Fintan's GAA Grounds. The club colours are red and white. History The club is a senior hurling club and won its only Laois Senior Hurling Championship in 1942. Park–Ratheniska GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association gaelic football and hurling club in County Laois, Ireland. The club was founded in 1981 after the amalgamation of Park Football Club and Ratheniska Hurling Club. The club's colours are green and gold. The club has competed at senior level in both hurling and Gaelic football and has a juvenile section, catering for both boys and girls in hurling and football from U6 up to U21. St Fintan's, Colt GAA
Colt GAA is a Gaelic football and hurling club in County Laois, Ireland. The club is located in the parish of Raheen and amalgamates with Shanahoe GAA and Clonad GAA to play underage football and hurling. Since 2020 it amalgamated with Shanahoe to play hurling in the Laois Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship but later relegated to Intermediate Championship 2021. The club has never won the Laois Senior Hurling Championship but won the Laois Intermediate Hurling Championship four times in 1965, 1971, 1979 and 2008.
