Errill GAA
Errill GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association gaelic football club in Errill in County Laois, Ireland. The club colours are green and white. The club grounds on the Roscrea Road are called Pairc Eireil. The club currently amalgamates at all levels of hurling with neighbouring club Rathdowney and in 2006 the Rathdowney-Errill team won the Laois Senior Hurling Championship for the first time ever. The Errill club has twice won the Laois Senior Hurling Championship, (1938 and 1952) and won the Laois Intermediate Hurling Championship in 1981. It also won the Laois U-21 B Hurling Championship in 1997. Although football would be very much a secondary sport in the area, there has been some success with wins in the Laois Junior C Football Championship in 2000 and 2016 and the Laois Junior B Football Championship in 2017 and 2019. Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. Errill
Errill () is a village in southwest County Laois, Ireland, near the County Tipperary and County Kilkenny borders. It is centred on a village green around which sits a shop with the local post office, two pubs and a Roman Catholic church. The local primary school and village hall are less than from the village near St. Kierans church and Errill cemetery. Errill Gaa Field is also located less than from the village. History Errill was the site of an ancient monastic settlement, of which the medieval St. Kieran's Church (a national monument) is the only remnant. Also, Lisduff House, an old landlord's house located in Lisduff, Errill, had many English Royals holidaying at the household in its day. There was also a Lisduff Train Station in the early 1800s. Roscrea
Roscrea () is a market town in County Tipperary, Ireland, which in 2016 had a population of 5,446. Roscrea is one of the oldest towns in Ireland, having developed around the 7th century monastery of Saint Crónán of Roscrea, parts of which remain preserved today. Roscrea is a designated ''Irish Heritage Town'' due to the extent of important historical buildings that are preserved in the town. Amongst the most notable buildings of interest are the 13th century Roscrea Castle and Damer House on Castle Street. Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. Rathdowney GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association gaelic football club in Rathdowney, County Laois, Ireland. The club colours are green and red and the club grounds are called Kelly O'Daly Park. The club currently amalgamates at all levels of hurling with neighbouring club Errill and in 2006 the Rathdowney-Errill team won the Laois Senior Hurling Championship for the first time ever. The Rathdowney club itself holds 18 Laois Senior Hurling Championship titles and was the leader of the 'Order of Merit' in the number of Laois Senior Hurling Championship titles for a long number of years. The Laois Senior Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition contested by top-tier Laois GAA clubs. The Laois GAA, Laois County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1888. Laois All-County Football League
The Laois All-County Football League (ACFL) is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by Laois GAA clubs. There are seven divisions and teams are promoted and relegated according to their league standing each year. Prior to the inception of the All-County Football League, league competitions titled the Senior Football League, Intermediate Football League and Junior Football League were in place. These would have roughly equated to the current top three or four divisions in the ACFL.
