Kilcotton GAA
Kilcotton GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association hurling club in County Laois, Ireland. The club colours are green with gold trim and a white sash. History In the early part of the 20th century the club won 10 Laois Senior Hurling Championship titles between the years 1904 and 1929. At underage grades the club combines with its neighbouring club Borris-in-Ossory. The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. Hurling
Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. Laois Senior Hurling Championship
The Laois Senior Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition contested by top-tier Laois GAA clubs. The Laois GAA, Laois County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1888. Clough–Ballacolla GAA, Clough–Ballacolla (incl Ballygeehan) are the title holders (2022) defeating Camross GAA, Camross in the Final and completing the club's first three-in-a-row since doing a five-in-a-row in 1918. Honours The trophy presented to the winners is the Bob O'Keefe Cup. The winners of the Laois Senior Championship qualify to represent their county in the Leinster Senior Club Hurling Championship. They often do well there and Clough–Ballacolla GAA, Clough–Ballacolla were in the 2021 Leinster Final after winning the Laois Senior Hurling Championship. Borris-in-Ossory GAA
Borris-in-Ossory GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in the small town of Borris-in-Ossory, County Laois, Ireland. The club colours are red and white and the club grounds are called O'Keefe Park. Formerly, primarily a hurling club, Borris-in-Ossory now operates solely as a gaelic football club. It amalgamates at all age levels with its neighbouring club, Kilcotton GAA, with which it competes in hurling as Borris-in-Ossory–Kilcotton GAA. The clubs however field separate Gaelic football teams, and compete as separate clubs in the Laois Junior C Football Championship. The club won five Laois Senior Hurling Championships, the last of which came in 1972. The Laois and Leinster hurler Christy O'Brien played in all five wins and was captain for the first four wins between 1956 and 1961. The Laois Junior Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition contested by lower-tier Laois GAA clubs. Ballypickas are the title holders (2021) defeating near neighbours Abbeyleix in the Final. Ballypickas are both the current holders and joint most winners at this grade along with Camross (8). Honours The trophy presented to the winners is the Fr Phelan Cup. The winners of the Laois Junior Championship qualify to represent their county in the Leinster Junior Club Hurling Championship.
