La Dolce Vita (Anneli Saaristo Song)
Finland was represented by Anneli Saaristo, with the song "La dolce vita", at the 1989 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 6 May in Lausanne, Switzerland. Before Eurovision National final The final was held on 4th February 1989 at the Kultturitalo in Helsinki, hosted by Tarja Koskela. Ten songs took part with the winner chosen by an "expert" jury. Other participants included former Finnish representatives Kirka (1984) and Sonja Lumme (1985). At Eurovision On the night of the final Saaristo performed 14th in the running order, following Austria and preceding France. Anneli Saaristo
Terttu Anneli Orvokki Saaristo (born 15 February 1949) is a Finnish singer and actress, best known internationally for her participation in the 1989 Eurovision Song Contest. Early career Saaristo was born in Jokioinen. She spent the 1970s performing in singing competitions and worked as a dance orchestra singer. Her first album was released in 1980. Eurovision Song Contest Saaristo first entered the Finnish Eurovision selection in 1978 with the song "Sinun kanssasi, sinua ilman", which finished fourth. A second attempt in 1984 with "Sä liian paljon vaadit" ended in third place. Pepe Willberg
Pertti "Pepe" Willberg (formerly Toivo Pertti Uolevi Willberg, till 1955 Kaukonen; born on 17 December 1946) is a Finnish singer, songwriter and guitarist. Biography Willberg was born in Turku and started his musical career in the beginning of the 1960s, playing the rhythm guitar in a Lauttasaari (Helsinki) based band called the Islanders. Since then he has performed, for example as the lead singer for the bands Jormas and Pepe & Paradise. In addition to his solo career Willberg has also appeared with groups such as the Finntastic, Mestarit (Masters), and Poptenorit (Poptenors). Gösta Erik Sundqvist (May 17, 1957, Espoo – August 16, 2003) was a Finnish musician and radio personality. He was the lead singer for Leevi and the Leavings since the forming of the band. The name "Leevi" is often taken to mean Sundqvist personally, although this is incorrect, and "Leevi" refers to a late friend of the band members. 1989 Eurovision Song Contest
The Eurovision Song Contest 1989 was the 34th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Lausanne, Switzerland, following Céline Dion's victory at the with the song "Ne partez pas sans moi". Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG SSR), the contest was held at Palais de Beaulieu on 6 May 1989 and was hosted by Swiss model Lolita Morena and journalist Jacques Deschenaux. Twenty-two countries took part in the contest with returning after having been disqualified the year before. The winner was with the song " Rock Me" by Croatian band Riva. Veikko Olavi "Vexi" Salmi (; 21 September 1942 – 8 September 2020) was a Finnish lyricist. He wrote the lyrics to numerous popular songs for several prominent artists, including Irwin Goodman, Jari Sillanpää, and Katri Helena. His career as a lyricist began in the 1960s, and continued until his death. During his prolific career, he wrote the lyrics for over 4,000 songs, more than 2,400 of which have been recorded. In addition to song lyrics, he authored several novels and one collection of poetry.
