Kyūshū Shinkansen
The is a Japanese Shinkansen high-speed railway network. It is an extension of the San'yō Shinkansen from Honshu connecting the city of Fukuoka (Hakata Station) in the north of Japan's Kyushu Island to the city of Kagoshima (Kagoshima-Chuo Station) in the south. The line runs parallel to the existing Kagoshima Main Line and is operated by Kyushu Railway Company (JR Kyushu). The southernmost section of the track was constructed first, opening on 13 March 2004. The dual-track offered a significant improvement in transit time over the equivalent single-track section of the Kagoshima Main Line, despite the need for passengers to change to a ''Relay Tsubame'' narrow gauge train at Shin-Yatsushiro, and the remainder of the journey to Hakata Station. 800 Series Shinkansen
The is a Japanese Shinkansen high-speed train type operated by Kyushu Railway Company (JR Kyushu) on the Kyushu Shinkansen high-speed rail line. Built by Hitachi, the trains were introduced on the '' Tsubame'' services from March 2004. The 800 series has a maximum speed of in service, although its maximum design speed is . It was one of the two recipients of the 45th Laurel Prize awarded by the Japan Railfan Club in 2005. It abandoned the 700's "duckbill" nose in favor of a sharper nose. A cross-platform interchange is a type of interchange between different lines at a metro (or other railway) station. The term originates with the London Underground; such layouts exist in other networks but are not commonly so named. In the United States, it is often referred to as a cross-platform transfer. This configuration occurs at a station with island platforms, with a single platform in between the tracks allocated to two directions of travel, or two side platforms between the tracks, connected by level corridors. Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen
The is a Japanese Shinkansen high-speed rail line on the northwest part of Kyushu Island that is operated by the Kyushu Railway Company (JR Kyushu). A segment of the line that connects Nagasaki to commenced service on 23 September 2022. The line runs parallel to the existing Nagasaki Main Line and has a total length of , making it the shortest high-speed Shinkansen railway line in Japan in terms of length. The entire line is envisioned to connect to , and potentially become an extension of the San'yō Shinkansen in Honshu. However, as of 2022 the route of the segment east of Takeo-Onsen to Hakata via Saga has yet to be decided, and construction has yet to commence. Kagoshima Main Line
The is a major railway line operated by the Kyushu Railway Company (JR Kyushu) between Mojikō in Kitakyushu, and Kagoshima Station in Kagoshima City, at the southern end of Kyushu. Until March 13, 2004, it extended 393 km between its two termini; however, with the opening of the Kyushu Shinkansen on March 13, the section between Yatsushiro and Sendai was transferred to the third-sector Hisatsu Orange Railway Company. The line is an important line in Kyushu, connecting Fukuoka (Hakata Station) to many other major cities.
