Kåre Thomsen
Kåre Thomsen (born 30 December 1959) is a Norwegian Jazz musician (guitar) and graphic designer, known for a number of releases and is active on the Bergen jazz scene performing with musicians like Karl Seglem, Vigleik Storaas and Terje Isungset. He is the younger brother of the acclaimed Bergen guitarist Ole Thomsen. Career Thomsen was born in Bergen. When growing up, he was inspired by Jazz fusion and played in bands like "Rabies" (including drummer Atle Garmann & bassist Knut Vaksdal), and "One Step Limbo" together with Program 81/82 vocalist Kate Augestad and bassist Frank Hovland among others, In 1987 Thomsen appeared on the show "Nattsang" at NRK, with the band "Growl", comprising Karl Seglem (saxophone), Vigleik Storaas (piano), Odd Magne Gridseth (bass) and Terje Isungset (drums). Bergen
Bergen (), historically Bjørgvin, is a city and municipality in Vestland county on the west coast of Norway. , its population is roughly 285,900. Bergen is the second-largest city in Norway. Frank Hovland
Frank Hovland (born June 6, 1960) is a Norwegian luthier, rock musician and music producer from Bergen, known for his work with the band Program 81/82 along with his partner Kate Augestad, and collaborations with Ronni Le Tekrø, Terje Rypdal, Chris Thompson and Mads Eriksen. Career Hovland started his career by playing with different rock bands, including Program 81/82, Avenue Talk, and Spastisk Ekstase in Bergen. Avenue Talk was the supporting act for A-ha on their Norwegian tour in 1987. Hovland has been a long-time bassist and producer for Mads Eriksen, and for the latter's collaboration with Chris Tompson. In 2007, he released the album ''Mad & Hungry'' with Magnar Bernes and Mads Eriksen. Nattjazz
Bergen International Jazz Festival or Nattjazz, is one of the largest jazz festivals of Norway. The festival has a musical profile with an emphasis on ethnic and contemporary jazz. It is held annually in late May, coinciding with Festspillene i Bergen, and is located at Verftet in Bergen. Biography The festival was arranged for the first time in 1972 at ''Håndverkeren'' in Bergen (now closed). It moved to ''Studentsenteret'' in 1978 (now demolished and rebuilt), and eventually to ''USF Verftet'' in 1994. In 2012 Nattjazz was held in different localities in ''Vågsbunnen'' because of the reconstructions of ''USF Verftet''. During the course of the festival most concerts are held indoors, but with some outdoor concerts too. The festival has also collaborated with other events, such as Festspillene i Bergen in Grieghallen. Odd Magne Gridseth (born 27 April 1959 in Ørsta, Sunnmøre, Norway) is a Norwegian musician (bass), known from the Trondheim music scene. Biography Gridseth was regular bassist in the band «Soundtrip» together with guitarist Ove Bjørken, drummer Ernst-Wiggo Sandbakk and keyboardist Jan Gunnar Hoff, a collaboration that was continued with the ensemble «Trondheim Bop-service», which included Ernst-Wiggo Sandbakk, Odd André Elveland (tenor saxophone), Ove Bjørken, Torgeir Andresen (trumpet) and Kåre Kolve (alto saxophone). Kate Augestad
Kate Elisabeth Augestad (born 1956) is a Norwegian vocalist known from bands like Johnny Banan Band and Program 81/82, and the mother of mezzo-soprano, vocalist, actress and conductor Tora Augestad (b. 1979). Augestad was born in Bergen. After her singing career, she became Assistant Professor at University of Bergen, Department of Information Science and Media Studies, and "Handelshøyskolen BI" in Bergen. She has also appeared as an actor at Den Nationale Scene in Bergen. Musical career Augestad and Lasse Myrvold (1953–2006) were lead vocalists in the band "Johnny Banan Band", which later became The Aller Værste!.
