Karl Seglem (born 8 July 1961 in Årdalstangen, Norway) is a Norwegian Jazz musician (saxophone and bukkehorn), composer and producer, known from a series of combined jazz and traditional music releases, as well as leading his own record label NorCD from 1991. Career Seglem was educated on the Music program at Voss Folk High School (1978–80), followed by cooperation with Arvid Genius, «Jan Grieg Qvartet», Kenneth Sivertsen (1980–92) and Knut Kristiansen (during the 1980s) in Bergen. He also led his own Jazz band «Growl», wrote for the magazin «Jazznytt» and was politically active in ''Foreningen norske jazzmusikere''. Sigurd Hole
Sigurd Hole (born 13 July 1981) is a Norwegian jazz musician (upright bass) from Rendalen living in Oslo. Biography Sigurd Hole was born in Elverum, Norway, and has worked in jazz ensembles and presetented content related to Norwegian folk music. He has been nominated for a Norwegian Grammy twice in recent years. Hole released his first album as a leader, the solo double bass album called "Elvesang", in January 2018. Influenced by classical minimalism, his own Norwegian musical heritage and the sound of the Japanese Shakuhachi flute, he explores the double bass as a medium of sound, creating more often than not meditative movements resembling abstract images of different sounds and objects in nature. Jonas Howden Sjøvaag
Jonas Howden Sjøvaag (born 3 November 1978 in Munich, Germany) is a Norwegian jazz drummer. Biography Sjøvaag started playing piano at an early age. He had his solo debut with Vestfold Youth Symphony Orchestra at age 11, started playing drums at age 10, and switched main focus to jazz drums at age 17. He graduated at the Norwegian Academy of Music with a Master's degree in improvised music in 2008. From 2003 he has been regular drummer of the Eple Trio. Andreas Ulvo (born 22 July 1983 in Kongsvinger, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz pianist, organist, keyboardist and composer, known from cooperations with Shining, Ingrid Olava, Mathias Eick Quartet, Solveig Slettahjell & Slow Motion Orchestra, Karl Seglem and Thom Hell. Career Ulvo holds a master's degree in Jazz and Improvisation from Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. Vossajazz
Vossajazz or Vossa Jazz (established 19 December 1973) is an international jazz festival in Voss, Norway, which takes place annually during the week before Easter, and which also includes concerts throughout the year. The festival has been led by Trude Storheim since August 2007. History The first festival in 1974 was held the same weekend as the World Cup in Alpine skiing at Voss. The idea was that ski and jazz fit together. Since 1986 the festival has always taken place during the palm weekend. From 2007, the festival director has been Trude Storheim. In 1980 Vossajazz brought Rune Gustafsson and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen together for a power session in the old Voss cinema. This cooperation led to the album ''Just The Way You Are'' (1980). Marte Eberson
Marte Maaland Eberson is a Norwegian keyboardist and composer, known from bands including Morning Has Occurred and Highasakite. She is the daughter of the guitarist Jon Eberson. Career Eberson was born in Oslo, and obtained her formal musical education from the Music program at Foss videregående skole, "Sund Folkehøgskole", followed by a bachelor's degree from the Jazz program at Griegakademiet ( UiB) in Bergen. She is involved in many different bands and various musical contexts, most recently with the band Eberson Funk Ensemble, a band including her guitarist father Jon Eberson, Pål Thowsen, Sigurd Hole and Kim Erik Pedersen at Victoria, the Norwegian National Jazz Scene in Oslo 2013. Natalie Sandtorv
Natalie Sandtorv (born 17 August 1988) is a Norwegian jazz musician (vocals, waterphone, harmonium, electronics) married July 29, 2016, to drummer Ole Mofjell, residing in Copenhagen, Denmark. Biography Sandtorv was born in Ålesund, Norway. She studied jazz, improvisational music and electronics at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo and at Griegakademiet in Bergen. She is known for her exploration of different expressions within improvisational music in solo projects and with various ensembles. Sandtorv started the band Polygon Junx in Bergen 2011, together with noise artist John Hegre. and drummer Thore Warland from the band Staer. Morning Has Occurred
Morning Has Occurred (initiated 2010 in Bergen, Norway) is a Norwegian Jazz ensemble. Biography The band members met on the Jazz program at Griegakademiet, and started the band in 2010. The quartet performs self composed material, which are based within jazz, combined with a small dose of contemporary music. The music contains abstract patterns ranging from appealing soundscapes crossed energetic impulses. Improvisation and interplay between the musicians are in focus. You can describe the music of this young quartet as a combination of different timbres, unusual instrumentation, and altered sounds that create an open and exciting soundscape. Jon Fosse
Jon Olav Fosse (born 29 September 1959) is a Norwegian author and dramatist. Biography Jon Fosse was born in Haugesund, Norway. A serious accident at age seven brought him close to death; the experience significantly influenced his adulthood writing. He enrolled in the University of Bergen and studied comparative literature. His debut novel, ''Raudt, svart'' (''Red, Black''), was published in 1983, written in Nynorsk, which at that time was the common written language only in western Norway (it has since become one of the two official written languages of the country). Isglem
Isglem (established 1987 in Bergen, Norway) is a Norwegian musical duo comprising Karl Seglem and Terje Isungset. Their traditional music and free jazz-based expression involves an unusual amount of improvisation and has given the pairing a pioneer stamp. Terje Isungset
Terje Isungset (born May 4, 1964) is a Norwegian drummer. From his background in jazz and traditional Scandinavian music, he has designed musical instruments from non-traditional materials, including ice. Career Isungset was raised in Geilo where he played traditional dance music with his father (accordion) during his high school days.
