Kill Switch (video Game)
''Kill Switch'' (stylized as '' kill.switch'') is a third-person shooter video game developed by Namco USA in 2003 for the PlayStation 2, Xbox and Microsoft Windows. A Game Boy Advance port was released in 2004. The GBA port was created independently of Namco, due to a licensing deal with Destination Software. The PAL release of the PS2 port came with a demo of '' SOCOM II U.S. Navy SEALs'' on a separate disc. The most distinguishing characteristic of ''Kill Switch'' is its cover system, a mechanic that has the player character taking cover behind objects and around corners in a manner similar to Namco's own ''Time Crisis'' series of light gun shooters as well as Koei's third-person shooter ''WinBack'' and Hideo Kojima's stealth game '' Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty''. Namco
was a Japanese multinational video game and entertainment company, headquartered in Ōta, Tokyo. It held several international branches, including Namco America in Santa Clara, California, Namco Europe in London, Namco Taiwan in Kaohsiung, and Shanghai Namco in mainland China. ''WinBack'' (known as ''WinBack: Covert Operations'' in North America and ''Operation: WinBack'' in Australia and Europe) is a third-person shooter video game developed by Omega Force (a division of Koei) and published for the Nintendo 64 in 1999, and the PlayStation 2 in 2000. The story follows secret agent Jean-Luc Cougar infiltrating a laser satellite's command center. Gameplay revolves around its innovative cover system, in which the player takes cover behind corners and then ducks out to shoot. ''Time Crisis'' is a first-person on-rails light gun shooter series of arcade video games by Namco, introduced in 1995. It is focused on the exploits of a fictional international intelligence agency who assigns its best agents to deal with a major threat by a hostile organisation, which has ranged from criminals, terrorists, to hostile military outfits, and mostly take place within fictional locations across the world. The arcade series differed from other light gun shooters of its time by incorporating unique mechanics, including the ability to duck into cover to dodge attacks and reload the player's weapon, and forcing players to complete battles in each level within an allotted amount of time. ''GMR'' was a monthly magazine on video games that was published by Ziff-Davis — the publisher of such magazines as '' PC Magazine'', ''Electronic Gaming Monthly'', and '' Computer Gaming World'' (later '' Games for Windows: The Official Magazine''). ''GMR'' was launched in February 2003, being sold in only the Electronics Boutique (EB) chain of video game stores. The magazine was unusual among multiconsole magazines in that it covered PC as well as console games, as well as its minimalistic cover art, and, in its last few months, its shift in focus toward promotion of less mainstream titles. Metacritic is a website that aggregates reviews of films, TV shows, music albums, video games and formerly, books. For each product, the scores from each review are averaged (a weighted average). Metacritic was created by Jason Dietz, Marc Doyle, and Julie Doyle Roberts in 1999. The site provides an excerpt from each review and hyperlinks to its source. A color of green, yellow or red summarizes the critics' recommendations. It is regarded as the foremost online review aggregation site for the video game industry. Metacritic's scoring converts each review into a percentage, either mathematically from the mark given, or what the site decides subjectively from a qualitative review. ''Play'' is a monthly magazine produced by Future Publishing in the United Kingdom, which reports on Sony's PlayStation product range. It had been published by Imagine Publishing but closed in 2016. It was resurrected as a replacement for the official UK PlayStation magazine in May 2021. Before it originally closed, it had become the UK's longest-running PlayStation magazine. Issue 269, the magazine's final printed edition was published in April 2016 when it become a digital only publication for a short time. As well as being sold in the UK, ''PLAY'' is also sold in Australia.
