Kieran Martin
Kieran Martin (born 1990 in Drumraney, County Westmeath) is an Irish sportsperson. A dual player, he plays both Gaelic football and hurling with his local club Maryland and has been a member of the Westmeath senior inter-county team in both codes since 2009. Playing career Martin was a playing member of the team that defeated Dublin at Parnell Park in the 2019 O'Byrne Cup final, his county's first time to win that trophy since 1988. He won his second piece of silverware of 2019 when Westmeath won the 2019 National Football League Division 3 league title by a goal against Laois at Croke Park, Martin scored 0–1. He spent two years as Westmeath captain until Kevin Maguire succeeded him from May 2021. His 2021 season came to an end after he sustained a rupture to his left achilles tendon during a National Football League fixture against Down. Maryland GAA
Maryland GAA is a Gaelic football club based in Drumraney, County Westmeath, Ireland. It was founded in 1957. Maryland play in the Westmeath Intermediate Football Championship and have been winners on 2 occasions, 1980 and 2008. Maryland GAA were winners of the Celebrity Bainisteoir (season 1) in 2008 under the guidance of radio and television presenter Marty Whelan who replaced Fianna Fáil TD Mary O'Rourke as bainisteoir during the series. Whelan's team beat solicitor Gerald Kean's Cork team, Mayfield, in the final at Parnell Park on 16 May 2008. County representatives Maryland were represented on both Westmeath's All Ireland Football victories. Kevin Maguire (Gaelic Footballer)
Kevin Maguire is a Gaelic footballer who plays for Caulry and the Westmeath county team. He played as a defender in the Leinster Senior Football Championship finals of 2015 and 2016, and won two Westmeath Intermediate Football Championships in 2014 and in 2019. His brother John also plays for Caulry. He was a playing member of the team when Westmeath won the 2019 National Football League Division 3 league title by a goal against Laois at Croke Park. He took over from Kieran Martin as the Westmeath captain in 2021, the first ever Caulry player to be given the role. He was captain when Westmeath won the 2022 Tailteann Cup. He had received a straight red card in his first Tailteann Cup game against Laois. O'Byrne Cup
The Bord na Móna O'Byrne Cup is a Gaelic football competition organised by the Leinster GAA and first staged in 1954. The competition is named after Matt Byrne, a former Wicklow GAA club and county officer. By virtue of a quirk in translation, the Corn Uí Bhroin became known as the O'Byrne cup even though Matt had never used an 'O' in his surname. Byrne was born on February 14, 1870, was a native of Baltinglass and taught at the local national school on Chapel Hill. Deeply involved in GAA activities at any levels throughout his life, he was regarded as a good footballer in his youth as well as an excellent handballer. He was the first secretary of the Maurice Davins' club in Baltinglass and served as a member of the Wicklow County Board for over 50 years, mostly as county registrar. 2022 Tailteann Cup
The 2022 Tailteann Cup was the inaugural edition of the Tailteann Cup and is the second-tier of Gaelic football for senior county teams (the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship is the first-tier trophy). It was contested by up to sixteen teams from Divisions 3 and 4 of the 2022 National Football League plus New York. Division 3 or 4 teams initially competed in their provincial championship and if they reached their provincial final, they continued in the 2022 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, progressing to the All-Ireland Qualifiers, whereas if they were beaten in their provincial final, they did not participate in the 2022 Tailteann Cup. The Tailteann Cup is a second tier Gaelic football championship competition held annually since 2022 and organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). Eoin Farrell
Eoin Farrell ( ir, link=y, Eoin Ó Fearail; November 1982 – 3 July 2022) was an Irish Gaelic footballer and selector. At club level he played with Maryland and was also a member of the Westmeath senior football team. Farrell usually lined out as a goalkeeper. Career Farrell first played Gaelic football at juvenile and underage levels with the Maryland club. He also lined out as a schoolboy with the Marist College in Athlone and was goalkeeper on the team that lost the 1999 Leinster colleges final to Good Counsel College. Farrell first appeared on the inter-county scene as a member of the Westmeath minor football team that beat Dublin to win the 1999 Leinster MFC title. He later lined out at under-21 and senior levels and also played with Athlone Institute of Technology in the Sigerson Cup. Farrell won a Westmeath IFC title with Maryland in 2008.
