Tailteann Cup
The Tailteann Cup is a second tier Gaelic football championship competition held annually since 2022 and organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is contested by those county teams who do not qualify for the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship and the winner is awarded the Tailteann Cup. The name 'Tailteann' comes from the ancient Tailteann Games. Background Following ongoing one-sided matches in the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship between counties of differing standards, the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) began considering the addition of a tournament for so-called weaker counties who were usually eliminated in the early stages of their respective provincial championship. Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. National Football League (Ireland)
The National Football League (NFL; ga, Sraith Náisiúnta Peile) is an annual Gaelic football competition between the senior county teams of Ireland plus London. Sponsored by Allianz, it is officially known as the Allianz National Football League. The Gaelic Athletic Association organises the league. The winning team receives the New Ireland Cup, presented by the New Ireland Assurance Company. The National Football League is the second most prestigious inter-county Gaelic Football competition after the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. The flag of Ulster is a historic banner based on the coat of arms of Ulster, used to represent Ulster, one of the four provinces of Ireland. It consists of a red cross on a gold background with a red hand on a white shield in the centre. Barry Cassidy
Barry Cassidy is a Gaelic football referee. An inter-county championship referee since 2012, Cassidy has been described as the top referee in Ulster. A member of the Derry GAA club Bellaghy, Cassidy refereed the inaugural Tailteann Cup final. Career Cassidy refereed his first Derry Senior Football Championship final in 2010, Coleraine v Ballinderry Shamrocks. He also refereed the 2013 Derry SFC final, won by Ballinderry Shamrocks against Ballinascreen. Cassidy worked on the 2011 All-Ireland Minor Football Championship, as a linesman. Kevin Maguire (Gaelic Footballer)
Kevin Maguire is a Gaelic footballer who plays for Caulry and the Westmeath county team. He played as a defender in the Leinster Senior Football Championship finals of 2015 and 2016, and won two Westmeath Intermediate Football Championships in 2014 and in 2019. His brother John also plays for Caulry. He was a playing member of the team when Westmeath won the 2019 National Football League Division 3 league title by a goal against Laois at Croke Park. He took over from Kieran Martin as the Westmeath captain in 2021, the first ever Caulry player to be given the role. He was captain when Westmeath won the 2022 Tailteann Cup.
