Kees Andrea
Cornelis (Kees) Andrea (3 February 1914 in The Hague – 7 July 2006 in The Hague) was a Dutch artist. He was a member of the Pulchri Studio in The Hague, and member of the Verve group. Primarily a graphic artist, he also worked in textiles. His work was part of the painting event in the art competition at the 1948 Summer Olympics. Pulchri Studio
Pulchri Studio (Latin:"For the study of beauty") is a Dutch art society, art institution and art studio based in The Hague ('s-Gravenhage), Netherlands. This institute began in 1847 at the home of painter Lambertus Hardenberg. Since 1893 the club has its residence in the villa at Lange Voorhout in The Hague. Membership is made up of painters, sculptors, photographers and art lovers, with members selected by a committee. An artist's membership allows themt to exhibit their own works in the galleries of the Company. Guests have to be invited by members. Verve Group
The New Hague School (Dutch Nieuwe Haagse School) was a movement in the Dutch fine arts of the 1950s and 60s. It opposed the Cobra avant-garde movement and found its inspiration in 17th-century art and the experiences of the Barbizon School and the resulting Hague School. History Immediately after the Second World War The Hague artists came up with their own renewal in painting in addition to the experimental Cobra movement. In 1949 came the first Posthoorn-group, named after the bodega and art gallery named De Posthoorn. The group disbanded in 1962. Art Competitions At The 1948 Summer Olympics
Art competitions at the Summer Olympics, Art competitions were held as part of the 1948 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom, Great Britain. Medals were awarded in five categories (architecture, literature, music, painting, and sculpture), for works inspired by sport-related themes. The art exhibition was held at the Victoria and Albert Museum from 15 July to 14 August, and displayed works of art from 27 different countries. The literature competition attracted 44 entries, and the music competition had 36 entries. The art competitions included multiple subcategories for each of the five artistic categories. The judges declined to award any medals for dramatic works in literature, and no gold medals in another five subcategories. Alex Diggelmann of Switzerland won both a silver medal and a bronze medal for two different entries in the applied arts and crafts subcategory, a feat unlikely to be duplicated in any event in the Olympic sports, current Olympic program. Pat Andrea
Pat Andrea (born 1942) is a Dutch contemporary painter and sculptor. He is one of the representatives of the New Subjectivity. Biography Pat Andrea was born in 1942 in The Hague, Netherlands. He is the son of the illustrator Metty Naezer and the painter Kees Andrea. From 1960 to 1965, Pat Andrea studied at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, where he was a student of the painter Co Westerik. Along with Walter Nobbe and Peter Blokhuis, he founded the ABN Group (from their initials: A ndrea, B lokhuis, N obbe ). They came to be associated with the Nieuwe Haagse School. In 1977, Jean Clair invited him to participate in the exhibition ''La nouvelle subjectivité'' in the Paris Fall Festival, along with Jim Dine, David Hockney, R. B.
