Verve Group
The New Hague School (Dutch Nieuwe Haagse School) was a movement in the Dutch fine arts of the 1950s and 60s. It opposed the Cobra avant-garde movement and found its inspiration in 17th-century art and the experiences of the Barbizon School and the resulting Hague School. History Immediately after the Second World War The Hague artists came up with their own renewal in painting in addition to the experimental Cobra movement. In 1949 came the first Posthoorn-group, named after the bodega and art gallery named De Posthoorn. The group disbanded in 1962. In 1951 came the group Verve, or Hague Verve, which focused on The Hague interpretation of the innovations in the School of Paris in modern figurative art. The group ceased to exist in 1957. As a loose continuation of Verve, the group Fugare was founded in 1960, with an emphasis on non-figurative art. This group existed until 1967. Ans Wortel
Ans (Anna Maria) Wortel (18 October 1929, in Alkmaar, Netherlands4 December 1996, in Hilvarenbeek, Netherlands) was a Dutch painter, poet and writer. She made gouaches and oil paintings, aquarelles, drawings, collages, lithographs, etchings, sculptures and glass sculptures. Piet Ouborg
Piet or Pieter Ouborg (10 March 1893, Dordrecht - 3 June 1956, The Hague) was a Dutch artist. He started out in life as a teacher; this profession was threatened with interruption by the outbreak of World War I when Ouborg was liable to enlistment. He managed to evade military service by taking up a teaching position in the Dutch East Indies. While there, Ouborg took up drawing and painting. Roelof Paul Citroen (15 December 1896 – 13 March 1983) was a German-born Dutch artist, art educator and co-founder of the New Art Academy in Amsterdam. Livinus van de Bundt was a Dutch artist, who called himself Livinus. Initially a painter and graphic artist, he was the founder of an art academy and later became a pioneer of light art and video art. Biography Livinus Arie Cornelis Jan van de Bundt was born 5 March 1909 in Zeist. His father was Jan van de Bundt (1887–1970), his mother Sijgje Cornelia van der Vlies (1885–1961). Livinus had two sisters, Corry and Kiki. Livinus started painting aged 14. From 1929 to 1931 he worked for Koninklijke Begeer. Bram Roth
Abraham Cornelis (Bram) Roth (The Hague, September 7, 1916–October 21, 1995) was a Dutch sculptor. Live and Work Roth studied sculpture with teachers such as Bon Ingen-Housz, Marino Marini and at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague. Later as a teacher himself was he connected to the Academie van Beeldende Kunsten en Technische Wetenschappen in Rotterdam. Willem Schrofer
Willem Schrofer (6 March 1898 – 22 September 1968) was a Dutch art teacher and painter. His vision influenced the Nieuwe Haagse School movement. Life His father was a cabinet maker, appointed by Princess von Wied as Superintendent of the Pavilion von Wied in Scheveningen, where his parents lived. Young Schrofer was obsessed with drawing. In 1913 he attended the National Training College in Nijmegen. Later he studied drawing at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague. William Henry Bik was his teacher. After his military service, he became a teacher in the municipality of The Hague, where he soon specialised in drawing lessons.
