Harm Kamerlingh Onnes
Harm Henrick Kamerlingh Onnes (15 February 1893 – 20 May 1985 in Leiden) was a Dutch portrait painter and ceramist,Mienke Simon Thomas (2008). Goed in vorm: honderd jaar ontwerpen in Nederland'' p. 188 who also produced designs for stamps and stained-glass windows. He is best known for the small, humorous vignettes of everyday life. Life and work Kamerlingh Onnes was born in Zoeterwoude in 1893. His father Menso Kamerlingh Onnes was a painter and member of the Hague School, who in 1911 gave his son permission to develop as an artist. Bert Nienhuis
Lambertus (Bert) Nienhuis (14 November 1873 in Groningen – 1960 in Amsterdam) was a Dutch ceramist, designer and jewelry designer. Life and work Nienhuis was born in Groningen as the son of the broker Lambertus Nienhuis (1834–1890) and Alberdina Good House (1835–1875). He was educated at the Minerva Academy in his hometown and then at the State School of Applied Arts in Amsterdam (Rijksschool voor Kunstnijverheid Amsterdam). In 1895 he worked for the stoneware factories De Distel in Amsterdam. A year later he founded Lotus Tile Bakery in Watergraafsmeer. His company was taken over in 1901 by De Distel, and Nienhuis became in charge of the decorative department. His invention of a matte glaze was quickly adopted by other factories. From 1905 Nienhuis lecturer at the School of Applied Arts in Haarlem. He began that year with jewelry design for the jewelry firm Hoeker & Son. Municipal Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen () is an art museum in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The name of the museum is derived from the two most important collectors of Frans Jacob Otto Boijmans and Daniël George van Beuningen. It is located at the Museumpark in the district Rotterdam Centrum, close to the Kunsthal and the Natural History Museum Rotterdam, Natural History Museum. The museum opened in 1849. It houses the collections of Frans Jacob Otto Boijmans (1767–1847) and Daniël George van Beuningen (1877–1955). The museum has become the house of over 151,000 artworks over 170 years. Frans Wildenhain
Frans Wildenhain also known as Franz Rudolf Wildenhain (June 5, 1905 – January 25, 1980) was a Bauhaus-trained German potter and sculptor, who taught for many years at the School for American Craftsmen (now School for American Crafts) at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York. Bauhaus and after Born in Leipzig, Germany, Wildenhain's early artistic training was in drawing, design and lithography. In February 1924, he enrolled at the Bauhaus in Weimar, where he completed the foundations or preparatory course under László Moholy-Nagy. He also studied with Paul Klee, and, beginning in November 1924, with Gerhard Marcks and Max Krehan at the Bauhaus pottery workshop in Dornburg. Among the other potters there was Marguerite Friedlaender, his future wife. When the Bauhaus moved to Dessau in 1925, pottery was dropped from its curriculum. Dirk Hubers
Dirk Hubers (Amersfoort, 24 September 1913 – Guanajuato, 1 November 2003) was a Dutch ceramist, who lived and worked in Bergen, North Holland and starting in 1958 in the United States. Hubers is notated for being "one of the first to apply abstract graphic designs on his objects." Life and work After secondary school Hubert first worked as a clerk, ordinary seaman and farmhand. At a stay in Denmark in 1936 he came in contact with pottery, and learned the fundamentals of the profession. Back in the Netherlands in 1938 he became apprentice at a pottery in Putten. During the war he worked at a pottery in Voorschoten. After the war settles in Bergen where he started his own studio. Huberts came into prominence in 1953, when with Bert Nienhuis, Harm Kamerlingh Onnes, Piet Wiegman and Frans Wildenhain he took part in the exhibition "five contemporary potters" in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, which was one of the first museum presentations of modern artisan ceramics in the Nether ...
