Kate Sayer
Kate Sayer (born 8 March 2003) is an Australian artistic gymnast and the 2018 Pacific Rim Gymnastics Championships junior bronze medallist on balance beam. She represented Australia at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games. Early life Sayer was born in South Brisbane, Queensland. She began gymnastics when she was four years old. Gymnastics career 2017–18 Sayer competed at the 2017 Australian National Championships. She placed fifth in the Junior 14 All-Around Final and placed second on vault and uneven bars and fourth on balance beam. In April 2018 Sayer was selected to compete at the Pacific Rim Championships. While there she helped Australia finish third in the team final behind the United States and Canada. Gymnastics at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics was held from 7 to 16 October at the Parque Olímpico de la Juventud#Olympic Park, America Pavilion in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Qualification Summary Acrobatic Each National Olympic Committee (NOC) can enter a maximum of 1 team of 2 athletes. As hosts, Argentina was given a team to compete, causing a reduction to the number of teams qualified from the Americas. The remaining 11 teams were to be decided at the 2018 Acrobatics World Championships. Host Argentina declined the quota while no nation from Oceania competed. The United States declined the quota, and thus the two places were reallocated to Asia and Europe. In gymnastics, the floor is a specially prepared exercise surface, which is considered an apparatus. It is used by both male and female gymnasts. The gymnastics event performed on the floor is called floor exercise. The English abbreviation for the event in gymnastics scoring is FX. A spring floor is used in all of gymnastics to provide more bounce, and also help prevent potential injuries to lower extremity joints of gymnasts due to the nature of the apparatus, which includes the repeated pounding required to train it. Cheerleading also uses spring floors for practice. The sprung floor used for indoor athletics, however, is designed to reduce bounce. Gymnastics Balance Beam
The balance beam is a rectangular artistic gymnastics apparatus and an event performed using the apparatus. Both the apparatus and the event are sometimes simply referred to as "beam". The English abbreviation for the event in gymnastics scoring is BB. The beam is a small, thin beam which is typically raised from the floor on a leg or stand at both ends. The uneven bars or asymmetric bars is an artistic gymnastics apparatus. It is made of a steel frame. The bars are made of fiberglass with wood coating, or less commonly wood. The English abbreviation for the event in gymnastics scoring is UB or AB, and the apparatus and event are often referred to simply as "bars". The bars are placed at different heights and widths, allowing the gymnast to transition from bar to bar. A gymnast usually adds white chalk to the hands so that they can grip the bar better.
