Karen Holtsmark
Karen Kristine Holtsmark (11 November 1907 – 7 March 1998) was a Norwegian painter. Biography Holtsmark was born at Ås in Akershus, Norway. She was a daughter of Gabriel Gabrielsen Holtsmark (1867–1954) and his wife Margrete Weisse (1871–1933). Her father was a physicist, and her mother was an educator. She was a maternal granddaughter of philologist Johan Peter Weisse, and a paternal granddaughter of agriculturalist and politician Bent Holtsmark. She was a niece of politicians Bernt and Torger Holtsmark, and a sister of professors Johan and Anne Holtsmark. She married Haakon R. Brækken in July 1936, but the marriage was dissolved. Career Holtsmark attended the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry from 1924 to 1927 and the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts from 1927 to 1930. Bjarne Rise
Bjarne Rise (June 18, 1904 in Minneapolis, United States – September 30, 1984 in Oslo) was a Norwegian painter. Biography Background Bjarne Rise was born in Minneapolis, United States of Norwegian parents. When he was five years old, the family moved back to his home village of Oppdal where he had his upbringing. Autumn of 1925, he moved to Oslo where he first went on the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry. After that he studied at the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts first in 1927 and later, in 1932-1933 with Axel Revold, in 1935-1936 with Georg Jacobsen. Vilhelm Bjerke-Petersen (December 24, 1909 - September 13, 1957) was a Danish painter, writer, and art theorist. Life Born in Copenhagen, he studied under Axel Revold at the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts from 1927 to 1929, and then under Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky at Bauhaus Dessau from 1930 to 1931. He was a Surrealist painter, and agitated for the style in several publications. Lillehammer Art Museum ( no, Lillehammer kunstmuseum) is an art gallery located in Lillehammer, Norway. The museum was founded in 1921 as a gift from merchant Einar Lunde. It has three main collections: one consisting of over 100 paintings from adherents of the Matisse school, donated by Einar Lunde from the 1920s. In 1958, antique dealer Oscar Johannesen donated his entire collection from the 19th century. In 2008, Jon Dobloug donated major parts of his collection including 159 paintings dating from the 1980s and 1990s. The older part of the collection, pictures donated by Lunde and Johannessen, is mainly found in the building designed by architect Erling Viksjø, which was completed in 1963. Else Halling
Else Halling (3 July 1899 – 14 February 1987) was a Norwegian textile artist. She is known for her reconstructions of old Norwegian tapestry, and taught weaving in Trondheim, Drammen and Oslo. She decorated public institutions such as the Royal Palace in Oslo, the Akershus Castle, the Stortinget building, and the Oslo City Hall. Personal life Halling was born in Øvre Eiker to a priest, Johannes Swensen, and Marie Halling. She was a granddaughter of priest and labour movement pioneer, Honoratus Halling, and niece of educator, Sigurd Halling. She died in Oslo in 1987. Career Halling was educated at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry in Kristiania, and eventually made further studies in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, France and Austria. Lund, Sweden
Lund (, , ) is a city in the southern Swedish provinces of Sweden, province of Scania, across the Øresund, Öresund strait from Copenhagen.
