Kami (1982 Film)
''Kami'' is a 1982 Malaysian Malay-language drama film. It is notable as being the only film featuring Sudirman Haji Arshad, a successful Malay singer dubbed the "Singing Lawyer" as he was a law graduate from the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur (an academic background almost unheard of among Malay entertainers). The film is written and directed by Patrick Yeoh, who was notable as being the first non-Malay in several decades to direct a Malay film. The film is unusual for its time, not following the conventional Bollywood influenced formula that typified Malay films of the era. Plot The film is about two young runaway teenagers who meet in the city of Kuala Lumpur after leaving their respective homes in different states. Tookoo (Sudirman) the elder of the two, who was first in the city, "adopts" Din (Zulzamri) and as their relationship develops, is both big brother and father to Din. Datuk Abdul Aziz bin Sattar ( Jawi: عبدالعزيز بن ستار;‎ 8 August 1925 – 6 May 2014) was a Malaysian actor, singer, comedian, and director who is mostly known for his roles in the black and white Malay films of the 1950s and 1960s. Early life Aziz Sattar was born on Bawean island in Pekalongan Village, Gresik Regency, East Java Province, Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) on 8 August 1925. When he was three years old, his family migrated to Singapore, where he was raised at Pasir Panjang. There, he met and befriended Salleh Kamil and Shariff Dol, who would later go on to extensive movie careers similar to his own. His early education was at the Sekolah Melayu Kota Raja. However, he was unable to continue his education beyond the age of 11 due to the Japanese occupation of Malaya at the time. Dato' Sudirman bin Haji Arshad, (25 May 1954 – 22 February 1992), known mononymously as Sudirman, was a Malaysian singer and songwriter. His singing career kicked off after winning the Bintang RTM singing competition on 11 August 1976. His career defining moment came after he was awarded winner of the "1989 Asia's No. 1 Performer" title which he won during the '‘Asian Popular Music Awards'’ competition held at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 19 March 1989. Ibrahim Din (1929 – 16 June 1996) was a Malay film actor, best known for playing the role of ''Mi'' in the Do Re Mi film trilogy alongside P. Ramlee and A. R. Tompel. Early life Ibrahim Din was born on 1929 at Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur. Career Starring alongside P. Ramlee in the Do Re Mi series and in Anak Bapak raised Ibrahim's profile in the burgeoning Malay film industry of the time. He starred in films such as Gadis Langkawi and Sabarudin Tukang Kasut, but it was for playing Mi in Do Re Mi that he was best known. Astro Citra is a 24-hour Malay language version of HBO Asia, showing the local and Asian movies.
