KZKZ (defunct)
KZKZ (729 kHz AM broadcasting, AM) was the second radio station in the Philippines. It began broadcasting in 1922 and was founded by Henry Hermann, the owner of the Electrical Supply Company in Manila. The station was upgraded in 1924 to a 100-watt station and its call letters, KZKZ, were adopted; at the time, stations in the Philippines carried U.S. call signs, though the United States Department of Commerce did not regulate them. Later that year, the station was sold to the Radio Corporation of the Philippines. Power was upgraded to 500 watts. Radio Corporation of the Philippines merged with the Far Eastern Radio Corporation in September 1925. Far Eastern owned station KZRQ, which survived the merger while KZKZ was shuttered. In 1926, the organization began work on constructing two of the largest radio stations in Asia with the idea of maintaining direct Manila-San Francisco service. Radio Corporation of the Philippines, presently operating as Radyo Pilipino Media Group, is the Philippine broadcasting company. Originally founded in 1924, it is the oldest radio network in the Philippines; its current incarnation was founded on June 25, 1985, by a consortium led by businessman-politician Eduardo Cojuangco Jr. The Radyo Pilipino group is composed of five broadcast companies owned by Lucky Star Holdings: Radyo Pilipino Corporation, RadioCorp, Philippine Radio Corporation (PhilRadio), Radio Audience Developers Integrated Organization Inc. AM Broadcasting
AM broadcasting is radio broadcasting using amplitude modulation (AM) transmissions. It was the first method developed for making audio radio transmissions, and is still used worldwide, primarily for medium wave (also known as "AM band") transmissions, but also on the longwave and shortwave radio bands. The earliest experimental AM transmissions began in the early 1900s. However, widespread AM broadcasting was not established until the 1920s, following the development of vacuum tube receivers and transmitters. AM radio remained the dominant method of broadcasting for the next 30 years, a period called the "Golden Age of Radio", until television broadcasting became widespread in the 1950s and received most of the programming previously carried by radio. DYRC (648 AM) Aksyon Radyo is a radio station in the Philippines, owned and operated by Manila Broadcasting Company. It serves as the flagship radio station of MBC's regional AM network Aksyon Radyo. The station's studio is located at 2nd Floor, GD Uyfang Bldg., Sanciangko cor. Panganiban, St., Brgy. Pahina Central, Cebu City, and its transmitter is located at Brgy. Tangke, Talisay City. History The origins of Aksyon Radyo can be traced to the original DYRC, first known as KZRC on January 7, 1929, by the Radio Corporation of the Philippines, then was sold to Isaac Beck.
