Joseph-Omer Gour
Joseph-Omer Gour (born Joseph-Omer Gourd; November 12, 1893 – March 24, 1959) was an Ontario farmer, merchant and political figure. He represented Russell in the House of Commons of Canada as a Liberal member from 1945 to 1959. He was born in St-Victor D'Alfred, Ontario in 1893, the son of Wilfrid Gour and Eliza Marleau, and was educated in Alfred and Plantagenet. He lived in Casselman. In 1929, he married Aurore Laurin. Gour served as mayor of Casselman from 1930 to 1935. His older brother, David Gourd also served in the House of Commons. Russell (Ontario Electoral District)
Russell was a federal electoral district in eastern Ontario, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1968. The federal riding was created by the British North America Act of 1867, and consisted initially of the County of Russell the townships of Gloucester and Osgoode in the county of Carleton. In 1903, the Rideau Ward of the city of Ottawa was added to the riding. In 1933, it was redefined to consist of the county of Russell and the part of the county of Carleton included in the township of Gloucester, excepting that part of the township of Gloucester included in the town of Eastview and the village of Rockcliffe Park. In 1947, it was expanded to include the town of Eastview in the township of Gloucester in the county of Carleton. The House of Commons of Canada (french: Chambre des communes du Canada) is the lower house of the Parliament of Canada. Together with the Crown and the Senate of Canada, they comprise the bicameral legislature of Canada. Casselman, Ontario
Casselman is a village in eastern Ontario, Canada, in the United Counties of Prescott and Russell. Situated on the South Nation River about southeast of downtown Ottawa, along the Trans-Canada Highway 417. It is served by a station on the Montreal-Ottawa Via Rail train, twice a day in each direction. Casselman is surrounded on all sides by The Nation since Casselman citizens refused to join the fusion of municipalities. The village was named after Martin Casselman who built a sawmill near the site of the current town in 1844. Its post office was established in 1857. The village installed modern water and sewer services that became operational in 1977. David Gourd (10 February 1885 – 29 December 1981) was a Liberal party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in Saint-Victor d'Alfred, Ontario, and became a financier and merchant by career. Early in his career, he moved to Amos, Quebec Amos is a town in northwestern Quebec, Canada, on the Harricana River. It is the seat of Abitibi Regional County Municipality.
